I'm glad no one was hurt, however this incident was just the open invitation the FRA was looking for to put a shit ton of restrictions on steam operations everywhere. That's what worries me.
In all honesty, I think 2816's venture into Mexico was well worth it. Yes, CPKC really dropped the ball on crowd control, resulting last week's tragic accident, but really, that engine being down there was probably the biggest cultural celebration in Mexico in who knows how long.
Still don't understand the hate this engine gets.
All day on Facebook, people have been cheering for it leaving Strasburg, wanting it to be scrapped for some stupid meme attempts. Like just stop already.
Foamer gods threw me a bone today.
Nickel Plate Road 190, one of the 4 remaining former Santa Fe Alco PA-1s left in existence, rests on home rails for the first time decades at BNSF's Argentine Yard.

As someone who works at a NS facility, the skit was spot on. The Class 1s have been a continuing dumpster fire since PSR was enacted. Yes, the model work is cool and all, but don't let that distract you from the actual point of it.

A steam meetup only a few got to witness.
Santa Fe 3751 had pretty much just got back to LA from its Employee Appreciation Special trip, and Southern Pacific 2472 was arriving with the Earth Train. A staged meet was arranged at Mission Tower just outside LAUPT.
I consider this the best photo I've taken. Here, I joined up with the chase teams of Trains Magazine and Railfan & Railroad for an unscheduled once in a lifetime shot. Knowing that shared this moment with Jim makes it all the more special to me.
