Funny thing: I'm not an AI user, at least not for generating images. This is just a shiny new thing, that might get Ghibli even more engraved in pop culture. I still think they are winning in the end. Only time will tell.

People will wait to watch their new movies because they are unique, even if AI makes a filter in the future and fans can natively edit videos and render the output in that style in a matter of minutes. And this trend should introduce Ghibli movies to more people.

They make incredible works of art filled with emotions and craftsmanship, they are still a traditional animation studio. And real fans will use the AI tools as an homage, not an insult to them.

"But Ghibli is losing money! they could monetize this trend". The studio doesn't have the bandwidth/interest to make highly customized illustrations to millions of people, sure that would be a nice side hustle, but that's not how they operate.

Some ppl think Ghibli aesthetics should not get diluted, but that makes the original more valuable. Sure, it feels awkward to see that style everywhere, but the output feels wholesome in most cases because that was the intention behind their creators. Ghibli still wins.
