📽️ Big win at the @berlinale for Luiz Bolognesi’s film, “The Last Forest” (“A Última Floresta”) which received The Panorama Audience Award 2021! 🎉 The film follows the lives of the Yanomami in the Brazilian Amazon, including the threats to their #forest from invaders. 1/3

Truth is, I write love poems about you that you will never hear. Truth is, you are a gaping heart bleeding to be sewn back whole. Truth is, I can't needle up the words it takes to repair the damage.

Giving birth and becoming a mom has made me more pro-abortion than I was before. the amount of resources and labor it takes to have a healthy pregnancy, labor and delivery. It’s not for every body. Folks deserve the right to choose.

Please stop calling Black Women Strong as a compliment. “Strong,” is why our mortality rate in medicine is high. Strong is why our pain is not taken seriously. Strong is why there is less empathy for us. Strong is why we’re put last in every movement because we can “handle it.”

PSA: in these United States Afro-descendants of Latin-America are not Hispanic, we are African-American. You may not identify as such but you are treated as such. Make sure your census knows you’re Black and not whatever colorless rainbow they have made Latinidad to be.

And I say this with love, EVERYBODY DESERVES TO WIN. but for y’all to sit here and pretend like these Black Dominican artists aren’t having to fight through, cultural appropriation, racism, classism, and xenophobia to get a seat at the table is dishonest and victim-blaming.

We know our collective struggles are interconnected because our oppressors get along very well. They work very hard to keep the Indigenous and Black people all over the world in a cycle of constant suffering.

President Luis Abinader, it was great meeting with you. Like I said today, the United States' and Dominican Republic's partnership is stronger than ever before – a reality that will allow us both to expand economic opportunity, counter corruption, and tackle the climate crisis.

One of the only telenovelas to ever cast a Black woman and she played a slave who married her master 🥴 can we stop pretending now? Thanks. #conhartura

my favorite part of living on this island is that for once in my adult life, i don’t have to consider how whiteness will try to ruin my day. my bit of freedom & joy is spending my days in safe non-white spaces. i wish this for all Black folks. wish to be held like this forever.

the weave patting, the glitter grills, the Black beats, the finger nagging, the Dominican slang, the co-opting of Black motorcycle culture…you really have to be unwell to support this kind of thievery.

as someone who lives on an island where mask mandates and curfews have not disappeared, and where local hospitals are not filled with COVID patients, I really feel like social distancing and masking works.
