Grateful and thrilled to have had an incredible experience presenting 2 posters at the 46th annual APPNA convention! Alhamdulillah, both posters got the Best Poster Presentation award. 🙏🏼 The cherry on top, I also received two gift cards! 😊😀
So excited to have received my first ever research award! Couldn't have been possible without the constant support and guidance of such distinguished doctors and exceptional mentors;Dr.
@AtherEnam
Dr.
@natashaaly
and Dr. Salman Adil!! Honoured and humbled to have worked with you.
1/4: I am currently exploring opportunities for postdoctoral research positions, and I recently reached out to a very renowned Neurosurgeon. To my utmost delight, I received a response from him, which was truly touching. This seemingly straightforward email carries significant-
Excellent ending to the pulmo rotation! So grateful to recieve a book on the last day of my Pulmonology rotation. Thank you
@DrJavaidKhan1
for the book and for teaching us the skills to interpret a Chest X-Ray.
A year ago I got this egg signed by my mentor after completing a task during a bootcamp. I had to make a small circle on the shell using a craniotome without breaching the dura (white membrane beneath it). It's incredible how these small things give us hope and motivation.
Today, I had the immense pleasure and honor of attending the extraordinary ceremony marking the appointment of Dr.

The Annual APPNA convention has been incredibly meaningful and I can confidently say that those 2 days are the best days of my life so far. Attending the event allowed me to connect with the AKU alumni from class of 1988 to 2021, an experience that fills me with immense pride.
In these three months, I've learned a valuable lesson: what we desire may not always be worth pursuing. Some achievements come to teach us patience and remind us that seeking fame and glory might not bring true satisfaction.
Feels like just yesterday I nervously stepped into med school, and now here I am, embracing the final year!
@AKUGlobal
, grateful for the journey. Thank for Dr. Adil for celebrating this day with us.⏳🎓

@AKUGlobal
is surely amongst the highest ! Thank you for the privilege and loved the Dhol ku Thap celebration after - you def earned it !
So grateful for the opportunity to volunteer during the AKU Alumni reunion event. It was an honor to have a group picture with our beloved Princess Zahra Aga Khan.
Today, I visited AKU again, and it felt like a trip down memory lane. The happiness I felt was like stepping in for the first time as a med student. It's unbelievable that five years flew by, turning that place into my cherished home.
Tell me you love Neuroscience without telling me you love Neuroscience:
When one loves mehndi but lacks the skill to create traditional mehndi designs, they might end up with a cute depiction of a neuron.
Super proud to have worked with a team of amazing people on this meta-analysis. I have truly learned alot from the project. Thank you Dr.
@AtherEnam

Nicotine pouches have been extensively advertised and further endorsed by influencers and actors with no clear evidence regarding their safety and usefulness. Thank you Dr.
@DrJavaidKhan1
for highlighting this important and rising issue among the youth of Pakistan.

"Thrilled that our research paper on nicotine pouches has been accepted in Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine journal! Excitingly, it was also covered by Dawn News, amplifying our findings to a wider audience. Do read the article.
Representing 023s (best batch of AKU-✌️) and

The warmth and special attention I received from our alumni, acknowledging me as the youngest AKU representative, moved me to tears of joy and gratitude.

One of the first things I did when I scrubbed in for the first time was putting screws during a cranioplasty. It was in my third year.
Shall we call it history in the making?
We at the Aga Khan University could do the first intra-operative MRI in Pakistan this week.

4/4: Although this consultant may not be aware, his words of encouragement have bolstered my determination to strive diligently toward my aspirations. I kindly urge professionals to offer support, as even a few words of encouragement can truly make a profound difference.
Plus, I'm officially Dr. Meher Angez now, and it's the best thing that happened in 2023 Alhamdulillah. I'm a first-generation doctor, driven by a heartfelt desire to serve my people.

This past weekend, the neurosurgery department of AKU organised a first of its kind, two-day neurosurgery Bootcamp for residents. This session involved hands-on practice for skills like burr holes and craniotomy as well as discussions with several highly informed speakers!
It was pleasure moderating 4th session of "The PANS Neuro-radiology Learning series". Thank you Dr.
@AtherEnam
@NSIG_AKU
@PASBAN_Group
for arranging these sessions and giving us the opportunity to learn more about neuroscience and keeping us motivated.
3/4: I am well aware of the demanding schedules of distinguished consultants, but even the smallest gesture and a few kind words can have a transformative impact.
1/5A few days back I posted about career choices based on lifestyle vs passion.
For students who are struggling to make career choices and experience graduation anxiety, it is important to consider the varying opinions on how to prioritize passion, lifestyle, and career options
These lyrics by a rapper Agust D hits differently when you try to understand the depth of his words.
"Endless influx of info prohibits freedom of imagination, and seeks conformity of thought
All these painful noises blind you, and
Now it even infringes on freedom of thought"
6/6: However, as a first-generation doctor from a middle-class background, the prospect of achieving my dream career seems almost insurmountable. As I approach graduation, I find myself feeling lost and uncertain about what lies ahead.

Everything is possible when we get our team together.
A huge thank you to our medical student volunteers and organizers for pulling off an amazing event! We are very proud of our group and we look forward to more events with these amazing individuals!!
5/5: If one has a particular passion that has been thoroughly explored, it is better to take action and pursue it. Attempting it is far better than abandoning aspirations due to temporary setbacks and regretting it your entire life.

A successful end to Day 1 & 2 of the basic research course organized by NSIG & SAND! On Day 1, Ayesha Nasir explained the basics of research followed up by Day 2, lead by Usama Waqar where participants were introduced to SPSS along with hands on practice!Stay tuned for next week!
3/6: This made me wonder whether I should be taking a closer look at my own career goals. Another quote that's been on my mind is "If you think the price of winning is too high, wait till you get the bill from regret, and that bill from regret is generational."
2/4: - inspiration, especially during the challenges one faces in their career and the anxiety associated with graduation. I am grateful that he actually read my email and dedicated his valuable time to compose this response.

I am so proud of my CP! You're doing such a great job. I guess I have mentored you very well 😁 (lol just kidding it's quite the opposite). Jokes aside Usama you're a great mentor and a great teacher ( and a great surgeon in a few years IA).
Passing on the torch! Grateful to

2/5: Almost everybody around you will have different opinions about it. So just close your eyes and trust yourself. Think about what you want and how you want to prioritize things based on whatever reasons that come to your mind.
3/4 Today, I got the chance to do a burr hole, and I felt the same way again - that deep concentration and confidence. So, when people ask me why I want to be a neurosurgeon, and if it's just because it seems glamorous, I can confidently say it's more than that.
4/6: This statement has prompted me to contemplate the importance of making decisions based on immediate outcomes versus those with long-term consequences. But how can one discern whether their passion represents a mature decision or a fleeting fancy?
I'm truly fortunate to have crossed paths with numerous Pakistani Alumni & dedicated PhD students at Emory and GSU. Learning from this diverse and talented community has been invaluable. 🤝📚
2/6: During a recent session, a consultant (who really inspires me), said something that stuck with me: "If your dream career (+ the struggle to achieve it) is causing you trouble and affecting your mental health, you should reconsider."
After discussions with consultants+exploring concepts from books, I have come to the conclusion that the key lies in identifying and pursuing a purposeful passion that imparts the sense of contentment and enthusiasm to start a day and reflect upon it with fulfillment/satisfaction
Another Neuro-radiology lecture, and another success!
Today, Dr. Shahzad Shamim (our mentor!) explained the normal spine anatomy, and common pathologies, including spinal stenosis and disc herniation, (1/2)

5/6: I have exhaustively explored my field and know with certainty that I love the field and pursuing a different specialty feels like an affront to my ambitions + my dream.
2/4 As I placed them, I thought about it and realized something special. At that moment, I was so focused that I didn't even notice the people around me. Nothing else mattered except what I was doing. I didn't feel nervous and nor was I trying to impress someone.
"Selfishness and greed have gone off the rails
I close my eyes and it's easy, it's all so obvious
Opinions clearly split depending on what's to gain
Everyone's been blinded by envy and jealousy
Without realising that they're putting shackles on each other"
"All the controversy incessantly
triggers confusion in judgement. Really, what is it exactly that's been restricting us?
Maybe we do it to ourselves
Slaves to capitalism, slaves to money
Slaves to hatred and prejudice
Slaves to YouTube, slaves to flexin'"

I still remember begging my night school teacher to change the class timings from 4 to 3 because all the kids wanted to watch Hatim at 4!
4/4 This sentiment goes beyond mere charm. It's an inexplicable force that fuels my commitment. There's a strong feeling inside me that draws me to this field. It's like an invisible force, and it makes me feel like I truly belong here.
From interacting with so many AKU alumni to attending the research showcase event, and listening to inspirational research ideas, the entire day was truly wholesome.
