I am sorry to see that despite years of talk, gender inequality is on full display at the #UNGA General Debate. Less than 10% of speakers this week are women. This is unacceptable – especially when we know gender equality delivers for peace, climate action and much more.

Today, the UN NGO Committee resumed. 🇺🇳 Civil society plays a critical role in maintaining peaceful & prosperous societies. 🇺🇳 The UK will support NGOs which remain politically barred from engaging with the UN. 🇺🇳 The Committee must facilitate NGO access, not impede it.

Human rights defenders should not be silenced! #unga
Today @ #UNGA 3C, Ireland🇮🇪delivered a joint statement on reprisals on behalf of 8⃣0⃣ countries & the EU🇪🇺. Civil society & human rights defenders must be able to meaningfully engage with the international system without fear of reprisal. Their work is crucial to us at the UN.

The UN #NGOCommittee is responsible for granting consultative status to civil society org, which is essential to access UN fora. It is made up of 19 UN Member States and has regularly been criticized for arbitrarily denying or stalling NGO applications for political motives.

This is the 3rd year in a row that a statement to #EndReprisals will be delivered at the #UNGA76 C3. Last year 75 countries joined. We expect more States to show their support and commitment to the right of defenders to safely engage with the UN.

Another resounding success for civil society inclusion at the UN!
🟢81 votes in favour, 🔴36 against & 🟡30 abstentions to ensure full civil society in the #UNGA76 high-level meeting on global road safety 🚗 🇩🇰 is happy to see this important step to #UNmute civil society pass. Thanks to the 🇬🇧 @UKUN_NewYork for introducing the amendment!👏

NGOs strengthen the work we do @UN & our impact on the ground. Their access should not be politicised. The #NGOCommittee has a responsibility to facilitate access, inclusion & transparency. Instead we see arbitrary deferrals of NGOs that could bring invaluable perspectives ⤵️
Yet again, @UN's NGO Committee concluded with many unjustified deferrals, including EU-based NGOs: 🇸🇪Diakonia 🇩🇰ISDN 🇮🇹Non C'è Pace Senza Giustizia – No Peace without Justice 🇳🇱Dr. Denis Mukwege Foundation & many others There have too been many biased & erroneous decisions.
