#HRC59 on 18 June 🇺🇳expert @Irenekhan said:."I've intervened with their respective govts, and I hope they'll reconsider their actions, particularly someone like #JimmyLai, who has been, at his age, for too long in pretrial detention, and does not deserve to be prosecuted."

During #HRC59, @volker_turk said in his Global Update: ‘In #HongKong, the continued application of #NationalSecurityLaws raises serious concerns about the shrinking of civic space.’.

In November 2024, #OHCHR expressed grave concerns over the sentencing of 45 people under #NationalSecurityLaw in #HongKong. @volker_turk calls for these convictions and sentences to be reviewed by appellate courts and repeal #NSL&suspend its application.

Over 60 States pay tribute to women #HumanRights defenders.Belgium delivered a statement to 'pay tribute to the achievements and progress made by women and girls Human Rights defenders, and emphasises the need for their voices to be heard and supported'.
