Fact: there are zero lectures at Carleton University's Journalism School @JSchool_CU named after women or non-binary people. We're about to change that.

LGBTQ+ journalists face disproportionate risks: 34% reported harassment, with higher rates of sexual harassment. We must protect all journalists equally. Dive into our "Journalists Under Fire" report for more insights: https://t.co/HFemGaGbtl

Keeping mid-career journalists with solid experience & some seniority is key to changing that. That’s why 7 of the 10 fellows are mid-career. It’s a crucial part of the pipeline to stronger journalism leadership. Our industry is better off the longer we stay in it.

We're glad to see the strong support, mentorship and fanfare offered to ‘young’, ‘new’ voices starting out in our industry. But how are they doing ten years in? In newsrooms, the higher you go, the fewer Black journalists you find in leadership. https://t.co/z3fDxIT4hF

Watch our video on how the inaugural Mary Ann Shadd Cary Fellowship for Black Journalists came together –and why it matters. This initiative was a historic first. We built it thinking of an often-overlooked part of our industry: mid-career journalists. https://t.co/HSpqZHIjeQ

As one of the few racialized journalists covering sports in Canada, I have to say that as women's sports continue to thrive and grow, toxic white feminism in the women's sports ecosystem continues to thrive. If you pledge to believe in equity & intersectionality, look around you.

When @vmochama pitched the idea of sending Black journalists to the @NABJ Convention in Chicago as a @ShaddCaryCentre project, it was easy to say yes. I went to Birmingham last year with institutional funding, as did @Pacinthe, who I went with. It was soul-filling for both of us.
