Special thanks to Brenda O'Neill, the Dean of Carleton's Faculty of Public and Global Affairs and Rafik Goubran, Carleton's VP for Research and International, for supporting this internship program, along with Journalism's Kesterton Endowment. Experiential learning at its best.
So proud of the 3 Carleton journalism students who completed two-month internships this spring, summer and fall covering Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan. Poppy Philbrook and Sean Coombs (both journalism students) and Alyssa Johnston (from media production and design) made up the team.

First-year students in JOUR1001 Journalism in Context: from Gutenberg to AI with Prof. Allan Thompson, take turns reading passages from John Milton's defence of freedom of the press in the classic Areopagitica, complete with the black coat, frilly collar and curly wig.
In my first-year class on journalism and democracy, we begin with John Milton's classic defence of freedom of the press in Areopagitica. To try to bring it to life, I have three student volunteers take turns reading. Thanks to Kayla Lessels, Andre Doan and Charlotte Nowak Bella.

Thrilled to welcome more than 40 young people to Carleton's journalism program this week to take part in the second iteration of our podcast summer camp. The camp is running at capacity, a testament to the interest among this generation in storytelling.
The podcast summer camp we're running this week @JSchool_CU is at full capacity, with a cohort doing podcast training with the amazing Caroline O'Neill and David Sarazin in the morning while the afternoon podcast group does sports. I see a lot of future journalists in the room.
