My boys were so excited that @BRCrandall delivered their published pieces to our house! I cannot recommend @CWPFairfield enough.

Reading to kids doesn't just benefit them. It's good for parents too. Evidence: Reading regularly to children improves parenting skills, reduces stress, and builds lasting bonds. In a distracted world, sitting together with a book is a rare occasion for undivided attention.

“When teachers are treated like the professionals they were trained to be, they show excellence at their schools. When they are scapegoated, or silenced, they begin to question why they chose the profession in the first place.” Yes! @BRCrandall

It’s time to move on from whole language v. balanced literacy v. structured literacy rhetoric. They’re indefinable terms, being done very differently in schools & camps aren’t helpful. We broadly agree on essential elements (the what), we just need more agreement on how/how much.

Lately, I'm left scratching my head at the way key concepts about reading instruction are explained and defined. So, I made a glossary and provided links to hopefully clear up confusion. I hope it's helpful!

To address the teacher shortage issue, we must address the teacher respect issue in our country. We must stop normalizing providing teachers with inadequate resources to be successful.

Writing isn't what you do after you have an idea. It's how you develop an inkling into an insight. Turning thoughts into words sharpens reasoning. What's fuzzy in your head is clear on the page. "I'm not a writer" shouldn't stop you from writing. Writing is a tool for thinking.

Being a good writer isn’t about using fancy words or complex sentences. It’s about igniting interest and communicating clearly. Kahneman & Harari write at a 9th-10th grade level. Tolstoy 8th, Austen 7th, Hemingway 4th. You don't need a page if it can be said in a paragraph.

Gotta keep growing and reflecting.
Many “best practices” were created for a world that no longer exists. In the face of change, the routines that once moved you forward often become the ruts that hold you back. No practice is ever perfect. The day you stop being open to improving is the day you start stagnating.
