Thanks, IRS, for providing an example of bad UI that I can use in teaching my software engineering class! Error messages should explain what went wrong and what the user can do to fix the problem.

New course policy: students may use AI for any class-related purpose. However, course staff will use AI to assist in running the class in proportion to their estimate of how much students use it!.

If you're at #FSE2024: please come to my student Shaokang Jiang's talk on Wed.: "An Analysis of the Costs and Benefits of Autocomplete in IDEs." Turns out that autocomplete DOESN'T reduce typing; instead, it helps by reducing time spent reading docs!.

Figured out AWS permissions but that doesn’t seem to result in auto-granting tenure. Rude.

Next SE lecture will be about security. "Thanks for coming to class today. I've now locked the door. If you absorb the lessons in today's lecture, you will be able to figure out how to leave the room at the end of class.".

Anyone (e.g. @JAldrichPL ) know how the ACM defines "corresponding author"? Hoping to get this paper we wrote at UCSD (a member of ACM open) made open access; we're getting pushback b/c two student authors are not at UCSD.
