“Guy told me I should give feedback in a ‘compliment sandwich.’ There should be a compliment, some criticism, followed by another compliment. I said, ‘That’s not a compliment sandwich, man. You name the sandwich by the filling. That’s a criticism sandwich on compliment bread.’”

A publication would never hire a male writer to do an equivalent take on the feminist movement.

A rich irony that these takes on the masculinity crisis are so often written by female writers — a large part of men's frustrations is that masculinity issues are viewed only through the lens of feminism.

Perhaps Josh Safdie made Marty supreme derivative of uncut gems on purpose… to retroactively claim credit over his brother for it… to imply it’s ideas were his own… subtle aesthetic fratricide…

The best part of FREE SOLO is when Alex Honnold tells his girlfriend he would rather die climbing than meet her emotional needs. A hero to boyfriends everywhere.

Excellently written piece that perfectly encapsulates the sad state of affairs that is the streaming era of Hollywood.
Did you know Eddie Murphy starred in a new comedy last summer? That John Cena and Idris Elba led a buddy flick? Jack Black played Santa! Melissa McCarthy met a genie! These are real movies, not 30 Rock-style gags. Welcome to the era of Black Hole Movies.

SINNERS, a decent but most certainly not great film, breaking the record for Oscar nominations is the greatest piece of evidence for how far the quality of films has fallen.

Zoomers have to have a dumbass term for every little thing. JESTERMAXXING? You mean being silly and fun? Shut the fuck up.
Clavicular realized that JESTERMAXXING at the club is actually peak fun😭 Clavicular just cracked the code: JESTERMAXXING at the club is officially the new meta. Forget the "mysterious guy in the corner" trope or the "stiff-arm drink hold." We are entering the era of

Amazon broadcasts do not catch crowd noise and it makes the games seem boring. I know Soldier Field is rocking right now but it sounds muffled on Prime.

These LA Times stories about how the city's restaurant industry is struggling always gloss over the massive increases in minimum wage pay (now > $20/hour) and how that cuts into a restaurant's already-thin margins.

I bet you could convince Josh Safdie to buy some magic beans.

If turns out he's wrong, that all of the centers he visited were upstanding daycares, maybe it will make YouTube audiences more incredulous about what they watch there (unlikely) and restore some faith in traditional news reporting (also unlikely, but a man can dream).

If Shirley is vindicated — there is widespread daycare fraud committed by MN's Somali community, and a lone YouTuber beat all the legacy news organizations to the story — it will further cement in people's minds the idea that MSM is uninterested in investigating stories

The Somali daycare fraud allegations are the biggest test to date for the mainstream news media's relevance and reputation in the YouTuber/influencer/decentralized social media era.

i always joke going thru psychoanalysis made me more conservative. what i realize i’ve meant by that is that it taught me i have agency and thus *blame* in almost every situation. it seems most therapy these days is primarily concerned with abdicating all blame for its subject

Alcoholics I know: “Yeah so I hid a handle of vodka behind my sump pump and drank it straight before picking my kids up from soccer” Zoomers: “You’re an alcoholic if you have to actively decide to not drink at a wedding”
it’s actually incredibly harmful to water down the definition of a dangerous disease like alcoholism to include anyone who likes to have a drink. by all means have a broader conversation about drinking culture, but this is toxic nonsense.
