Former IN Superintendent of Public Instruction, mom, educator, business owner, lifelong Hoosier, champion for kids ⭐️ Running to serve IN as its 52nd governor.
Just early voted.
Many voters in line without masks AND not a single poll worker had on a mask. 😞
Indiana must do better than this. If our kindergarten students can mask-up for the health and wellbeing of their classroom friends & family, so can you.
Principals are facing unprecedented responsibilities as school starts. It’s hard to understand unless you’ve “been there”.
Great leadership should never be overassumed or underestimated and always celebrated.
To the great principals, thank you!
IN it with you. ❤️
You want schools open.
We want schools open.
Soooo...
Wear a mask.
Respect necessary quarantine.
Participate in contact tracing.
Follow grouping restrictions.
Social distance.
Wash hands.
Sick stay home.
Stop “this is fake” nonsense.
Home support for 👆.
It’s up to us.
At a time when IN is losing 35% of our teachers in the first 5 years of experience & 88% of them are telling us it is due to pay, IN must respond now. Kids deserve & depend upon excellent teachers.
@EducateIN
As COVID-19 continues to bring challenges and learning opportunities, it affirms my belief IN’s next Sec’y of Education needs to have superintendent, principal and classroom experience.
No question!
Starting my last week as State Superintendent just as focused and proud as my first week as State Superintendent.
Kids First. Always.
Proud to be an educator.
Supts, sch bds, assns, & health depts are working w/ Ts, staff, & parents on local reentry.
With start of July/Aug & COVID trend data, more conversations & plan adjustments are expected.
Schs cannot & should not be bullied from DC into ignoring safety concerns. Not helpful.
Social distancing, deep cleaning, multiple learning platforms, food distribution sites, tele-health, PPE, COVID symptom screening/tx, loss learning instruction, etc. are all expensive.
Now is certainly not the time to threaten to withhold fed $.
Adding stressors.Not helpful.
My stance has been & remains 100% $ for all virtual students enrolled in brick-&-mortar schools during the pandemic regardless of who determines the virtual option (parent, health dept or school). Many are/will be running two platforms (onsite/virtual)
No penalizing schools!
Kids and their teachers are murdered: no legislative preventative action.
Kids want to play sports: GOP legislators call a special session and take swift action against transgender children.
Let that sink in.
The overwhelming task of contact tracing continues to reveal what kids and families do over the weekend impacts our school operations.
Schools cannot do this alone.
It’s always been about “local decision-making” until someone from the state or federal level doesn’t like the local decision.
This isn’t new for educators.
Many of the same people telling me what schools should and should not do are the same people telling me the government cannot tell them what to do. 🤦🏼♀️
Wow. Just. Wow.
Dear Indiana Legislative Session 2022,
We know how this story will end for IN.
Here’s your… “We told you so” notice.
Sincerely,
75K Educators (representing 92 counties). 🤦🏼♀️
As a result of over a decade of poor policy leading to a teacher workforce crisis, now…a teacher in Indiana requires…
✅no degree
✅no teaching exams
✅no teacher prep program training
✅no license
Think about that.
For a state who is having trouble attracting and retaining an educated work force, it should go without saying… the villainizing of Hoosier doctors and K-12 educators needs to stop.
The entire nation is watching.
If there was ever a time schs needed federal support, it is now.
Students deserve an unprecedented federal investment in resources not cuts or diversion of funds.
Schools deserve a federal champion to lift our leaders, support our teachers & believe in the safety of our kids.
COVID trends are going in the wrong direction.
We are trying to stay in school.
Help us!
Mask-Up!
Wash your hands.
Social distance.
It’s not too much to ask.
Dear Indiana,
Today is about Kids.
Tomorrow is about Kids.
Sincerely,
This Hoosier Mom
(a.k.a., State Superintendent of Public Instruction)
P.S. Our Indiana educators are amazing. ❤️
Educators...
Set up labs
Address emails/calls
Prepare tech
Collaborate with team
Plan/Attend PD
Sponsor clubs
Ensure lesson readiness
Attend parent mtgs
Supervise
Hold study groups
Set up stations
Meet with mentors
THEN...the school day “starts”.
Schools want to stay open.
Schools understand kids need to be in school.
Schools understand the hardship closures create for families.
Yet, healthy adults are necessary for safe & secure operations, and high % of students impacted by COVID cannot be ignored.
Safety first!
I love Indiana.
I don’t love the direction of many of our state’s political policies.
👆Seems to be the sentiment of many Hoosiers.
I love I’m not alone.
If your school board candidate wants to ban books, villainize teachers, fire all female leaders, and/or bash the district, the candidate has no business serving on your school board.
Kids deserve better.
Those who never had interest in funding SEL & often referred to it as “fluff” or “only family responsibilities” are now saying it’s a primary reason for student return.
Should we anticipate future adequate funding for counselors, social workers, behaviorist, SEL PD, ... ? 🤷🏼♀️
95% of Indiana families choose public schools in an extensive K-12 choice environment.
Expanding vouchers makes no sense for 95% of our families.
IN’s future depends on prioritizing public schools, celebrating great educators & holding meaningful discussions w/ practitioners.
Teacher: I love my job, and I’m leaving my job.
Me: I understand.
The loss of one great teacher is a loss to all of us.
Those who don’t understand the complexities of this loss and the action it deserves have no business leading.
Maintenance and custodial directors & staff...
Without the efforts of these invaluable folks, reentry is impossible.
Lots of pre-entry work completed and many more busy days to follow.
S/O to our beloved directors and crews. 👏
What if the same level of commitment, dedication, and support ($) for excessive academic testing I see from many elected officials was transferred to the commitment, dedication, and support of COVID-19 testing?
🤷🏼♀️
Me: You doing okay?
Teacher (38 yrs experience): I feel like a first year teacher.
Me: Are you ready to start next week?
Teacher: We’re always ready. That’s who we are. We have a great staff.
I’m so proud to be an educator.
IN it with you. ❤️
Support 100% school funding. A 15% cut is not acceptable.
A promise of a Jan. fix is a big gamble. A pandemic is certainly NOT the time for cuts.
Gov Holcomb (317) 232-4567
Spkr Huston (317) 232-9677
Sen. Bray (317) 232-9416
Sen. Mishler (317) 232-9814
Kids deserve better.
Let’s be clear...educators want bldgs, facilities & grounds open as soon as we can.
Let’s be clear...they will not do so if it jeopardizes the health and well-being of students, staff and communities.
@EducateIN
, schs, & partners are working hard to plan for the unknown.
As a reminder to those frustrated with the increase in school disruptions/closures, it takes healthy adults to safely operate a district.
Schools are doing the best they can. Safety is valued and will continue to be the priority.
Support Schools.

It’s hard to find appropriate words to express my complete gratitude for the heroic efforts of students, educators, support staff, & families during this health crisis.
Let the holiday break be just that- a much needed and well deserved break.
Thank you. Truly. Thank you.
To the educators who once again spent hours over the weekend...
✔️prepping
✔️grading

✔️sponsoring
✔️supervising
✔️attending events
Thank You! ❤️
@EducateIN
Appreciates you!
It’s going to take all of us to lift Indiana up.
Indiana deserves to be extraordinary. Hoosiers can make this happen with strong leadership.
The journey starts 2.0.2.4.
The claim local school leaders, boards, educators, staff, & health officials are not considering the risks of return and the risks of not returning is offensive.
Those trying to simply this complex situation are the same who try to simplify all things education.
We’ve all sacrificed during COVID. However, this one was tough...
Although not physically present at

Dad and I are so proud.
Thanks to all who contributed to Cael’s success.
Weather won’t be kind to schools this week, but we can all be kind to those making the tough operating decisions.

Transportation Directors. 🙏
Effective: July 1, 2022.
The Indiana General Assembly recently passed legislation, which removes the requirement to get a permit to carry a firearm and was opposed by many in law enforcement.
We cannot change minds.
We have to change leaders.
March to the polls. 🗳
I'm overwhelmed by your response to our campaign announcement today - thank YOU. ⭐️
We need your help to transform Indiana for the better.

Yes. Inflation across the globe is high.
Yes. Gas is high.
Yes. We’re all frustrated and concerned.
Yes. The IN Republicans really did just raise our already extremely high state gas tax again this week.
Yes. You can do something about it.

This is not good, Indiana. SB 386 is an attempt to end lessons and discussions on race and racism.
Suppressing factual history related to race and racism has consequences. We are better than policies of denial. Hoosiers deserve an education that is factual.
Blaming sch districts, who are closely monitored for fiscal responsibility, for IN’s teacher pay issues is either a result of an extreme lack of understanding sch. operations or a purposeful blame game.
Either way, not healthy or good for KIDS!
Shameful.
Stop Blaming Local
I'm your neighbor. Your coworker. Your kid's teacher.
I'm running for Indiana governor because Hoosiers deserve one of *us* in the Statehouse.
Someone who leads with common sense not chaos. Someone who will stand up for Hoosiers’ rights and liberties.
If your freshman GOP legislator uses the “year one” excuse to defend his/her votes against public education, he/she does not deserve a second term.
There is no excuse for voting against 94% of Hoosier kids.
I love Indiana.
I don’t love the direction of many of our state’s political policies.
👆Seems to be the sentiment of most Hoosiers.
I love I’m not alone.
I love we can change the direction. 2024
Actions addressing COVID-19 have spotlighted the priorities and strength of schools.

So much more than a single letter grade based on standardized tests.
Imagine if the amount of time legislators spent on “furries” was actually spent on the issue of state-wide daycare.
Imagine if the amount of time legislators spent on CRT was actually spent on the issue of state-wide PreK.
Real issues deserve time.
Tomorrow, the sun, earth and moon will align, and the stars are aligned for

Many of us have waited our entire lives for this Purdue moment.
Let’s go, Boilers.
Pay attention to HB 1449. It’s life-changing for students in poverty. The bill would auto-enroll eligible students into the 21st Century Scholarship Program. As an educator, I know firsthand the opportunity this would provide for so many.
Kids. First. Always.
Let me get this straight.
State level GOP leadership actual believes our kids are dressed up as cats during sch and are defecating in litter boxes while our teachers distribute porn.
Welcome to the 2023 legislative session.
Enough! Our kids and schools don’t deserve this.
IN is quickly becoming THE state where teachers & health care providers avoid to practice. Hoosiers desire and deserve high quality education and healthcare systems; this relies on the best professionals. GOP state leaders should speak up; denounce the constant attacks. Now.
All schools that receive public tax dollars should be held to the same accountability standards and reporting- fiscally & academically.
State Takeover is triggered by data. Yet, select schools are exempt from much of the data collection. 🤦🏼♀️

Schs across IN & our great Nation understand the importance of opening. We are trying to open and/or working hard to stay open.
Meanwhile...
Leaders holding/attending huge events without masks, without social distancing, & without care for pandemic messaging is not helpful.🤦🏼♀️
So ready for new U.S. Department of Education leadership. We need a strong champion for students and a practitioner voice for educators.
We deserve better.
January will be a new day. 🇺🇸

Indiana needs policy requiring a published report on annual taxpayer dollar loss associated with school choice. This can and should be done by county and in totality. The annual amount of our K-12 obligated tax dollars funneling out of Indiana is staggering.
When you hear GOP legislators claim historical levels of K-12 funding, know that you (taxpayers) are now funding a historical number of schools (public, charter and private).
Public schools are woefully underfunded. This has consequences.
Westfield and Avon both had female kickers kick an extra point tonight in the varsity football game.

Congrats Ladies!
If big decisions are made by isolated committees that continue to have the same chairs and/or members, lack transparency, are void of state-wide practitioner input, ignore data, and push final decisions while facing mass confusion, it is political. period. 🤦🏼♀️
We deserve better.
If your party has had a legislative Supermajority for two decades, and you have the gall to talk about failing schools, I reckon you’re telling on yourself.
Looking at you, Missouri GOP…
Sch. reeentry is important for kids, but sch. leaders understand it must be safe for all involved. State & local health agency experts have to drive this & make recommendations to sch. leaders based on trends, #’s , & science.
Sch leaders depend on strong public health experts.
The determination, effort & flexibility shown by AD’s, principals, coaches, officials, athletes, med staff, event workers, bus drivers, custodial staff, & parents to ensure athletic events happen is just impressive. 👏
There is no place for hate speech or for organizations who use it in Indiana or elsewhere.
We need Indiana leaders who will speak up and speak out against such messaging.
As a man of devout Jewish faith and a parent concerned about our kids’ education, this hate speech has no place in our community. I’m hopeful my opponent will condemn the organization using this inflammatory rhetoric of the former Nazi leader.
IN was the 1st state in the nation to pass an extreme abortion ban stripping women‘s fundamental rights to chart their healthcare course.
Reversing a 50-year precedent created confusion, fear, & uncertainty. Hoosier women deserve better.
As governor, I will fight for you. ⭐️
Many districts are trying to determine not if, but how long onsite shutdowns will last.
Sch leaders are under enormous pressure. They want to offer onsite instruction as much as possible; however, state & community COVID numbers are not good. Safety first!
IN it with you.
As 2022 is ushered out, I am excited about the new year.
I have my exploratory committee open for the 2024 Governor’s race.
Lots of important work to do, and I never shy away from hard work.
WE can do this!
I believe in US.
It’s official! Today, I filed paperwork for the 2024 Governor’s race.
This campaign is about the important issues impacting Hoosiers daily. Indiana deserves a governor who will fight against extremism & for sensible, effective policies.
Press Release:
School bd candidates who run on attacking public schs, revenge for masks, banning books, porn in classrooms, CRT,resegregation,anti-LGBTQ kids/staff,anti-SEL,anti-teaching accurate history, anti-women leaders and/or expanding poor performing charters are simply not fit for office.
