Completely agree with this. Cutting VAT on energy would be hugely inefficient, in every sense. Lots of people have internalised the idea that VAT is regressive. So it seems to logically follow that a VAT cut is progressive. But…
A strange move. Wealthier people spend more money on energy, in absolute terms - eg, because they have bigger homes. So a large share of the cost of doing this is from reducing tax on relatively well-off people. But unlike, say, an income tax cut, which also distributional cuts
