@GoogleWorkspace Friend's co is not a regulated entity. They didn't customize anything. Seems like Google just decided to opt them into these without any notice. Ton of emails are being blocked from sending for mentioning gender like "talked to Emily about the delays in shipping, she said..." 🤷

A friend contacted me to ask for help with @GoogleWorkspace preventing their employees from sending emails out. Employees couldn't figure out what about the emails was so sensitive. After some digging I found the audit log entry.

At some point ChatGPT became less edgy than an R-rated movie and nobody even noticed.

Strongly suspect METR eval is basically complete bullshit, but kinda don't have any time to dive into it. Has anyone else looked at it critically? Like how it defines task length, implied task complexity, etc.

I am usually indifferent to changes that drive people crazy in new releases but the macOS widget graphics have this amateurishly irksome quality it reminds me of people posting their very polished Linux Enlightenment WM desktop screenshots to Slashdot circa 1999

I'm not going to be impressed by this GPT5 livestream until someone is like "oh yeah I uploaded a picture of myself at my wedding and it reconstructed a high fidelity 3d model of the photographer even though we can't see him on any surface"

it's straight up elder abuse that Chrome force uninstalled uBlock Origin on laptops that their grandkids set up for them

the brutality of 3d graphics programming is that you're mostly dealing with arrays full of floats all day and 30 years of software engineering discipline just passes you by because there's not that much that helps with that you may as well be writing fortran

Chrome force-uninstalling uBlock Origin has been a nightmare for grandkids who are now dealing with their grandparents' sudden onslaught of malware ads

the most fucked up part is you *can't* know ahead of time good taste helps dodge the obvious traps but beyond that it's just trauma informed decisions and when you're working at the frontier (which is not uncommon in tech) there's no veterans you just roll dice and hope

it’s hard to explain to non-SWEs how completely crazy coding makes us after 20 years even simple choices hide landmines that can cost weeks or months of wasted effort even picking the wrong file format can wreck your year! we’re not paranoid, we've just seen shit

I really thought the hardest part of small electronics fabrication would be understanding EE and soldering stuff but it really feels like it's 90% staring at enclosures wondering how you can fit everything together and/or if you should 3d print some stuff

so are the RL agents DeepMind developed that kick ass at video games like Wintermute whereas generative AI like LLMs more like Neuromancer?
