Very grateful to Andrei for the opportunity to talk about Sorokin and a variety of other mad projects. Andrei is one of my heroes, so having my first interview in print on his sublime blog is truly surreal. Enjoy!

We finished this interview a month ago when even in the worst nightmare I could not have conceived that the deranged Kremlin dictator would launch an open, full-scale invasion of Ukraine. If we wer…

A grand review of SCHATTENFROH. Anahid has the good sense NOT to focus on the 20th-century canon of modernism and postmodernism, but to train her gaze all the way back to before the 19th century, where the book’s heart lies…

SCHATTENFROH is for EVERYONE. It’s about family and history and metaphysics and authoritarianism. It’s not a “bro book” in the slightest. Please don’t think it’s not for you because of memes or whatever else :) Give it a spin and I promise you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Women and nonbinary people who are currently reading or have ordered Schattenfroh— I’d love to hear from you in the replies. As a very femme-coded woman (red lipstick! Little ballet skirts!) I’m trying to change the narrative that this book is somehow not for us.

Even though I theoretically quit caffeine, these edits have been driving me to cold-brew excess and I talk to the baristas like Matthew McConaughey talking to the detectives in True Detective: “On my Moresco-editing days I start drinking at 8am. You don't get to interrupt that.”.
Who would have thought that @PedalersFork, a mild-mannered coffee shop in Calabasas, would become a key arena of literary history for giving me a safe haven in which to complete these brain-destroying final edits on the first volume of Moresco's GAMES OF ETERNITY trilogy??
