Bingeing on unearned attention

Very grateful to Andrei for the opportunity to talk about Sorokin and a variety of other mad projects. Andrei is one of my heroes, so having my first interview in print on his sublime blog is truly surreal. Enjoy!

We finished this interview a month ago when even in the worst nightmare I could not have conceived that the deranged Kremlin dictator would launch an open, full-scale invasion of Ukraine. If we wer…

one calls this (performative?) reading. I am currently on page 911. It's been a wild ride so far! I have to teach first but I am planning to slay this beast before the 5 pm translation launch event with @maxdaniellawton

"Altamente recomendable para quien busque una experiencia en su totalidad, sus fragmentos pueden funcionar por si solos pero Schattenfroh es una pieza en su totalidad y tal como la vida, se entiende [...] en retrospectiva" https://t.co/Xa6Mdnon94

High praise from James Elkins “Max Lawton, the translator of Schattenfroh, needs a special review just for his accomplishment. It’s hard to imagine handling the book any better than he has” @maxdaniellawton

The erudite James Elkins has a keen eye — there may be a few more instances when the translation calls attention to itself ;) if any of you can find them

Back before it was cool @dniellechelosky
In terms of literary style: a masterpiece of the highest order. There is a Tolstoyan purity to Sade’s use of French. Like a cold mountain stream.

Roman is the most conceptual text I have ever read.
Very excited that Vladimir’s two conceptual masterpieces NORMA and ROMAN will be coming out in 2027. Dates forthcoming. These are the Sorokins for the true heads and maybe the preferred texts of all serious scholars… They are companion pieces—names are intentional anagrams

I really think THE STRONGHOLD is a metaphor for being a writer 😅
As I scale the mountain of Moresco’s SONGS OF CHAOS, it has been enormously instructive to look at how other translators have tackled these strange and difficult masterpieces that, @fzpacifico and I agree, are the gnostic predecessors of Moresco’s project. Read ‘em b4 Moresco!

900 pages into schattenfroh lentz just goes on a 20-page rant on the ten commandments, divine authority and violence, situating the voice of god, and general theology describing munzter as a "beshitten prophet" and i think thats beautiful

@AnneMilanoAppel your brilliant work is pictured here :) Don’t know if any of the other translators are on here. But @fzpacifico and I will be singing the praises of these books (and your translation) during all the press we do for Moresco…
