Best preparation for HORCYNUS ORCA will have been working on this novel, but also reading all of Melville and Conrad (and I mean everything)… but maybe also reading a couple of the Patrick O’Brian adventure novels so I really get seafaring lingo down?.
The most deranged book I’ve ever worked on. Like drinking two bottles of Beefeater Gin, then running around London as fast as you can with early-20th-century dance-band music in your earbuds at triple speed. For 700 pages and change. Breaks only allowed for vomiting.
