DIY rehab can be effective but it assumes you know why you got hurt….and it’s often your training…which can be hard to assess objectively. The ReBUILD program from Elite Edge takes care of that, develops a plan, and gives you BETTER training.

I can only stress these points because I have experienced these ill effects of a chronic deficit. I had to reframe how I was living, not just eating. Physically, mentally, and emotionally I am better now and it all starts with understanding how to better manage your energy.

Training—. If you are stretched thin mentally and emotionally, also are not eating enough, and ALSO have impaired decision making…how in the hell do you expect to have a solid training program? . You can’t. You are a mess…And poor training is a roadblock to making progress.

Decision making—. If you run a deficit too deep, it becomes harder to make good decisions. This is closely tied with the emotions. You begin to act erratically, further precipitating more bad decisions. Keep energy positive so that your nervous system keeps you sane.

Emotions—. Your emotions and mental state require energy. Getting stretched thin in too many areas of life can drain you of energy even if your calories are perfect. No amount of food will solve that issue. You need to create a lifestyle that supports what you do.

Food—. Let’s get the surface level stuff out of the way first:. You need to eat to support your activity goals. When there is no gas in the tank, the car can’t go. If you run on E for too long, bad things happen…which brings up the next point.

Iñaki nails some important points on energy. Energy is about more than managing calories. Way more. I’ll do a 🧵 below with some of my own observations and shortcomings.

Don’t measure success by output alone, measure it by your ability to sustain and scale that output year after year. Most endurance athletes are chasing race pace right now, just like many push hard to close the quarter. Both can deliver short-term wins, but the smartest

Exercises that are touted as "bad" typically are done either . --in excess (volume or intensity).--with poor technique.--both. You probably need training guidance more than you do "rehab".

"what's the best exercise for xyz?". PT's spend waaaayyyyy too much time on picking the right exercise. i'm the only one asking if you can even recover from it.

Had a new patient last week who came in and asked . "all I am wanting are a few stretches to do at home.". Curious, I asked how she knew she needed that. "Isn't that what PT is? Some stretches to make it better?". I took the opportunity to not downplay but rather educate.

A patient told me last week: “I thought PT was just ice, heat, massage and stretching bands in a back room.”. Then they walked into our space, saw squat racks, turf, and people training like athletes. That’s the gap we’re closing—redefining rehab so people leave stronger, more.
