VLCC rates rise....a bit. Still a long summer ahead.
VLCC rates bottom out as Atlantic availability tightens VLCC rates rose from multi-month lows after a decline in vessel availability in the US Gulf triggered a resumption in ballasters heading to the region. Rates are likely to remain rangebound through the summer, however.

Russian crude is travelling further than before, lifting ton-miles. Aframaxes carrying Russian cargoes already accounted for a large share of Aframax demand, at about a quarter of ton-miles in 2021. In March, the Russian share increased to 29%, the highest level in two years.

The US sourced 42% (318 kbd) of all seaborne DPP barrels from Russia in 2021. Most of this flowed into southern Louisiana (138 kbd), Houston (60 kbd) and Beaumont/Port Arthur (38 kbd).
