Excited to share my #JMP on Election Results and Democratic Discontent! 🗳️🇧🇷. Thanks a lot @S_Stantcheva for the great summary thread!🧵
Two years after the Jan 6th events in the US, Brazil experienced deep turmoil after an election. My student & co-author Matteo Ferroni @matteoferroni93, currently on the job market, asks when elections lead to democratic discontent & violence in his JMP: .

Had a great time at the CES Conference!.Great talks, great people, and lots of new ideas to take home… As an economist, it was very stimulating to be surrounded by so many political scientists!.
another CES conference in the books! new mountain resort, same great vibes! we had a special time honoring Steve Ansolabehere who is stepping down from his leadership role, 20 years after founding this incredible innovative project that has done so much for the discipline.

AfD main party among voters between 18 and 49, practically the whole working population. Very scary for Germany and Europe….
Among others, two key factors stand out. Firstly, age—the number one predictor of voting intentions. While older voters stick with the traditional big parties, young and working age Germans are split between ideologically diverse smaller parties

In his first week in office, @realDonaldTrump signed 37 executive orders. It took @JoeBiden 50 days to reach this number. During Trump 1st, only 33 in 100 days. With each new presidency, policy reversal is getting more and more prominent. Not a good sign for democracy….

Interesting to notice how much the negative views toward a President have increased since @realDonaldTrump’s first term (with the exception of Nixon). A clear sign of today’s high political polarization!.
54% of U.S. adults believe Joe Biden will be remembered as a below average (17%) or poor (37%) president, while 19% say he will be evaluated as outstanding (6%) or above average (13%). New data:

Two years ago, supporters of former president.@jairbolsonaro stormed the buildings that symbolize Brazil's democracy. They opposed @LulaOficial's election victory and called for a military coup. But what makes people turn anti-democratic after losing an election? 1/3

How to win in 2028 👀. @TheDemocrats.
Annexing Canada would change American politics. Trump keeps trolling Canada about becoming the 51st state, so we took him literally (not seriously) and this is how it could play out 👉

And Trump’s presidency hasn’t even started….
@stevenmackeyman The reason I’m in America along with so many critical people who built SpaceX, Tesla and hundreds of other companies that made America strong is because of H1B. Take a big step back and FUCK YOURSELF in the face. I will go to war on this issue the likes of which you cannot.

I’ve been analyzing survey responses for years, and I’ve never seen as little polarization in the US as in their shared dislike of the healthcare system. Some issues still manage to unify the American people…. Data by @TheEconomist

3.3 Moreover, Republicans feel that the debate was rigged as the moderators were (rightfully but clearly) fact-checking only Trump. For this reason, they will ignore Trump’s poor performance.
Ironically the moderators are winning this debate for Trump by being so insanely lopsided and biased against him. They are now the story of the night. Which is a win for Trump.
