Just posted a write-up on how DataContractSerializer can easily be used to replace BinaryFormatter, along with some basic benchmarks showing it can produce a smaller output, and do it faster. It has high compatibility where often you don't need any changes.

New version of the WCF Client packages for .NET 8 released. No big changes, mostly a re-spin of 6.2.0. This provides a stable major version to depend on which will be supported for the 3 years that .NET 8 is supported.

We have just released CoreWCF 1.5.1 which includes UnixDomainSocket support. This works on Windows and Linux and provides similar capabilities to NetNamedPipe. WCF Client 6.2 also released with the client portion of this feature.

Saying it supports duplex services is also a misnomer. The service can't spontaneously call an API on the client without the client having an unfinished call. Then you need to use oneof with manual callback dispatch in your own code. It's long polling with switch statements.

After doing a deep dive on gRPC to find the difficulties that someone wanting to migrate a WCF service to gRPC might face, I've concluded there's some naming issues. To call it an RPC stack seems like a misnomer as it stuffs all your parameters inside a single wrapping parameter.

Great to see AWS enabling modernization of WCF apps to use the cloud in smarter ways than simply migrating a VM.

Announcing general availability of Amazon SQS binding extension support in CoreWCF. As you modernize your WCF services using MSMQ bindings to cross-platform CoreWCF, you can now use Amazon SQS as one of the bindings. #dotnet #AWS .
