. and here's a plain language summary of our recent paper that showed oscillations in perception in sync with our steps.
Using VR, psychology researchers found our brains oscillate with each step. 👣 "[. ] it’s as if your brain takes rhythmic snapshots of the world – and they are synchronised with the rhythm of your footfall," writes @matt_j_davidson (@Sydney_Uni).

6) Of course there's lots more in the paper, and we tentatively link these oscillations to similar examples based on the reset of endogenous cortical oscillations on the initiation of a voluntary action. The key here is that they sped/slowed to match the rhythm of footfall.

5) On average, performance was better in the swing phase between steps, but higher frequency and counterphase oscillations were also common in our sample. Oscillations were idiosyncratic and stable - conserved per participant across different performance metrics.
