MBTU mourns 20-year-old welder Amber Czech, murdered on her jobsite in Minnesota. Violence against women in construction must be confronted. Everyone must speak up, report, and act—𝗔𝗻𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿'𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘆.

37 yrs ago Nov. 8, 1988, Mass. voters overwhelmingly rejected Ballot Question #2 which would've repealed the #prevailingwage Law. The Building Trades & AFL-CIO mobilized thousands of #union members & public support to defeat Question #2 in a Quality of Life victory 4 all workers

Protect your wages by taking a minute to contact your State Representative & Senator. Tell them to close the Prevailing Wage Loophole.
📢 The offsite fabrication bill H.2162/S.1318 will close a loophole that allows contractors to move work offsite to avoid paying prevailing wages. Our work deserves respect, no matter where it’s done. 🗣️ Take 1 minute to contact your rep:

union-affiliated apprenticeship programs have led the industry’s efforts to expand & diversify its labor force-these programs train 9 of every 10 registered construction apprentices in the state, 96% of female apprentices, 95% of black apprentices & 94% of Hispanic apprentices
Union apprenticeships are building more than structures in California. They are building careers and a stronger workforce. https://t.co/9DWHEgRoI7

Trump Administration "..over $11 billion in lower-priority projects & considering them for cancellation.." That's a lot of construction jobs. Federal funding frozen for replacement of Cape Cod bridges https://t.co/azjB46P4LU via @BostonGlobe @NABTU @massaflcio

Governor Maura Healey and other Massachusetts lawmakers immediately expressed concern about the federal money, which was earmarked in the spring of 2024 for the replacement projects.

Big win for workers! The MA Dept of Labor Standards determined that #PrevailingWage law DOES APPLY to the off-site fabrication of custom-made, prefabricated, modular housing units for installation at #Somerville Clarendon Hill Project. @statehousenews

To me, research jobs aren't just the ones in labs. They're jobs in construction, in administration, in nearby restaurants and shops. The DRIVE Initiative is an investment in our economy and the workforce that powers it. More from @Mass_BTU President Frank Callahan.

The working class, including members of our union, are hurting right now. Our General President Jimmy Williams Jr. went on CBS last night to discuss how we can connect the dots between the economy, political system, and labor movement.

Sunday's fire at #Somerville's #ClarendonHill underscores the need to ensure that affordable housing is also safe housing. Shouldn't the new replacement building be safer than the one built in 1948? Unlicensed, unsupervised apprentices installing fire sprinklers - Really?
