the bouquet of today

one of my favorite things about the tv show love on the spectrum is how every first date starts with a small gift exchange. nothing big—just a little something under $20. it’s sweet. it shows effort. it says “i was thinking of you.”. why don’t more people do that?.

this is what i want.

lately i’ve been feeling a kind of pre-sadness about my dad. he’s alive and healthy. nothing’s wrong. but i love our talks—movies, philosophy, life. i call him for advice on everything. the thought of one day not being able to call my bestfriend wrecks me.

i used to make fun of girls who had what i was told were “meaningless” jobs. florists, milliners, seamstress, etc. i thought that i had to achieve something big to earn my place. i was wrong. they had it right. that, and becoming a mother, is the real secret to a happy life.
