Temperate rainforest has become a fashionable campaigning cause that overshadows the existence & potential for nature of other woodland types in Britain, not least the Ancient Woodland Indicator plant diversity of woodlands with high ecological integrity.

"Robust, evidence-based mechanisms for managing large carnivore populations should be implemented at the national level for each EU Member State to limit the possibility that decisions will be politicized and the best available science ignored".

Why venerate cultural landscape in Britain when there is an ecosystem closest to a natural condition? Primary forests world-wide are recognised to have high ecological integrity & so does our undisturbed ancient woodland. It is not ours to carelessly lose.

In spite of opposition due to the absence of a scientific basis, & doubts on the regularity of the procedure, the European Parliament voted 371-162 today to downlist protection of #wolves As the voting pattern shows, this is a victory for reactionary views.

So, all it took was a "show of hands" in the EU Parliament today to fast-track a vote on Thursday to down list protection of #wolves. The indecent haste that has characterised these moves by the EU is only matched by the complete disregard for the science.
