Really enjoyed the 3 episodes dropped so far in the Oopsie NZ series from my buddy Dr Lewis Tennant (particularly admire the musical creations). Nice to see former colleague @elle_hunt namechecked in Ep1 and @toddniall featuring in Ep2.

1/7 Smith's Dream appeared in '71. The book sold well & wowed reviewers, but CK Stead soon revised its ending, adding a note to explain his decision. Stead worried that his book had endorsed a dangerous national myth. The Tom Phillips saga shows the continuing power of that myth.

I was ten years old when the captain of the rainbow warrior called and said ‘the fuckers have blown up my ship, the fuckers have blown up my ship. I said ‘I’ll get Dad’. That is one of my clearest memories. Dad was meant to be on board that night but wasn’t well so stayed home.

40 years ago today terrorism came to Tāmaki Makaurau when French secret service agents bombed the Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior while it was moored at Marsden Wharf in Auckland on 10 July 1985, killing crew member and photographer Fernando Pereira. We have not forgotten. 🌈 🕊️
