Electric vehicle sales cratered in 2024 to barely a third of the 2023 sales level and less than half of the number sold in 2022 – and aren’t expected to return to their previous highs for another two years.

Reshuffle analysis: While Luxon and Willis are still talking about slashed government spending and last year’s tax cuts, neither seems to have shifted the dial on the economic mood of the nation.

Proactively released docs from Oct 4 - when the step system was introduced and elimination abandoned - are remarkably silent on the end of elimination. Either it was discussed verbally or never brought up - would explain muddled comms that week. #nzpol #Covid19 #Covid19nz.

Petrol use was up on last year due to a bit of regional travel but mostly because 2023 only counted emissions from May. Power emissions were up a lot, despite lower usage. This was driven by a dirtier grid over winter than in 2023 – though CO2 intensity has cratered since then.

Air travel made up the vast bulk of our emissions. This was mostly work-related travel (primarily but not solely my trip to Baku for #COP29), but flying back from the US in January produced a big chunk of emissions as well. Petrol and power were the other two big sources.
