Wise advice for people who request a meeting with their pastor.
Yesterday, I posted about asking your pastor to lunch or coffee, and apparently a lot of folks have strong feelings about such things. I noted that it would be excellent if you'd tell your pastor what you'd like to talk about beforehand - "Pastor, can we get lunch? I'd like to

Great thread from Marc! One suggestion for pastors: when a member requests a meeting: β simply ask what the meeting is about. βIβd love to meet! Would you mind telling me if thereβs anything specific youβd like to discuss so I can make the best use of our time?β

As a pastor, I've been ambushed more than once in this exact manner. Putting pastoral office to one side, it is beyond rude to blindside people just because it makes you comfortable. I've only had this happen from a pastor once. I've seen it happen to pastors too often.
Friends, if you invite your pastor to lunch or coffee, please tell him what you want to talk about... and be honest. "Pastor, can we get lunch? I'd like to talk about..." This helps him assess the urgency, and it may reduce unnecessary anxiety between now and the meeting.

This is a helpful thread that gives an insight into your pastor's life. Much of it resonates with my own experience.

Very great thoughts on how to love our pastors well.

If what comes to your mind when you think about a pastor is a celebrity/online personality (for good or bad), then you'll probably misunderstand a lot about what a pastor is and does. Get to a regular (probably small) local church, and get to know a real pastor. You'll be glad

Two things can be true: 1) Your pastor has more duties than you are likely aware of. And being straightforward with him about your intent for a meeting is simple courtesy. 2) If your pastor is consistently pleading being "too busy" to make time for meeting you. Signal concern.
