PERMITLESS CONCEALED CARRY:
Lawmakers are once again trying to advance a bill that would allow people in Louisiana who are 18 or older to carry concealed guns without a permit.

CARDELL HAYES TRIAL DAY 4 RECAP:
Conflicting statements from a key witness took center stage. The day ended with District Attorney Jason Williams and Defense Attorney John Fuller getting into a screaming match over whether or not Hayes was justified in the shooting.

Hundreds of people attended the New Orleans Police Department “Stakeout for Justice” event.
The event serves as a yearly fundraiser for the NOPD. This year, NOPD Chief Operating Officer Fausto Pichardo took the stage touting the city’s decrease in crime over the last year.
People around the Northeast are seeing (and smelling) the aftermath of the massive fires burning in Canada.
As of Monday afternoon, more than 400 fires were burning around Canada.

SALTWATER INTRUSION UPDATE-
Jefferson Parish President, Cynthia Lee Sheng attended a council meeting, providing more info as to how residents will be impacted by the saltwater intrusion and what they're doing to prepare.
She says she’s certain residents will have drinking water.
HEARTWARMING: The Sioux City Public Library provided some furry and affectionate listeners to help kids read.
Organizers say the program boosts kids’ self-confidence when developing reading skills.

MARRIED FOR 71 YEARS-
Two couples are celebrating the 71st anniversary of both of their weddings.
Jim and Janet Kirchner got married on June 6th while James and Marjorie Shepherd were wed the next day.
Bridge workers were on their way to remove debris from the roadway when a pickup slammed into the back of their work truck.
One worker broke three ribs, and the other had cuts on his back. Causeway GM Carlton Dufrechou said he thinks driver distraction contributed to the crash.
“This has been a catastrophic event for the city of Slidell.” - Slidell Mayor Greg Cromer said when talking about tornado damage during tonights press conference.

There’s literally no reason to harass someone who knew him before all this happened. Those messages were from a month after it happened, obviously she didn’t want to believe her close friend would do that. Try to be sympathetic instead of attack, I’m sure she’s traumatized enough

N.O.P.D POLICE CHIEF NOMINATION-

NEW DEVELOPMENTS: LAWERENCE HECKER ARRAIGNMENT-
Former New Orleans Priest Lawrence Hecker pleaded not guilty to kidnapping, theft, rape and crimes against nature during his arraignment.

I-55 PILEUP:
8 people have died after the massive pileup on Interstate 55. The crash involved at least 168 vehicles and injured at least 63 people.
I spoke to a few victims who detailed what it was really like to be in the crash.
MEANWHILE- Dry conditions are raising concerns over the health of oak trees in New Orleans.
In just 2 months, 2 people have been sent to the hospital due to large trees falling.
James Deroussel, an arborist says yearly inspections are required on most trees, like large oaks.
The New Orleans Police are investigating after several people reported gunshots were fired into their home, over the New Years weekend.
Keisha Jones was one of those people. She says if it weren’t for her “communication with God”, she doesn’t think she would be alive today.

The N.O.P.D is asking for the publics help in finding a missing man, last seen on Vespasian Blvd.

Sarah Chervinsky, Hayes attorney, alleges witness testimony tapes were lost or stolen by the NOPD. She says no one has an explanation for why the evidence can’t be located.

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for much of the KCAU 9 Coverage Area beginning Wednesday morning through Thursday morning. Snow totals for Sioux City are expected to be around 6-12" with some areas seeing higher amounts.
Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds has announced that $100 million of the nearly $1.5 billion in federal coronavirus relief funds allocated to the state will go to build new homes.

Cardell Hayes returned to criminal court today for the 2016 killing of former Saints football player Will Smith.
His retrial was delayed again. A pretrial conference is now scheduled for Wednesday, where Cardell is expected to plead guilty.
