🚨We can measure waves along 10s of km of coastline with incredibly high resolution using seafloor telecommunication cables! We show an application of this for understanding waves in sea ice in our new GRL open-access publication: 1/.

Successfully recovered all 👏 the 👏 moorings 👏 last week! These measurements of ocean waves and temperature will help us understand landfast ice breakout and calibrate measurements of waves from seafloor cables. @WHOI @NSF -funded
Went to Prudhoe Bay last week to drill some holes in the ice and drop some moorings to the seafloor! See you in September 🤞🏼👏🏼 #timelapse @WHOI

For a nice preview of our findings, check out summary threads by Evgenii:
@elementascience @MOSAiCArctic In our new study led by @madmscientist, we cover MOSAiC multidisciplinary observations of false bottoms and under-ice meltwater and provide melt-related terminology for WMO Sea Ice Nomenclature.

Incredibly excited to finally share this hugely interdisciplinary and collaborative work (w an incredible group of co-authors). There are still so many small-scale features with large-scale impact to understand in our present and changing Arctic ❄️ @MOSAiCArctic
