Many thanks to @SenSchumer, @SenatorRounds, @SenatorHeinrich, and @SenToddYoung, for inviting me to participate in the AI Insight Forum on Risk, Alignment, & Guarding Against Doomsday Scenarios.
I co-hosted the 8th bipartisan AI Insight Forum with Senators Rounds, Heinrich, Young focused on preventing long-term risks and doomsday scenarios. If managed properly, AI promises unimaginable potential. If left unchecked, AI poses both immediate and long-term risks.

It’s always surreal seeing a project come to completion, but today my novel “Red Heart” finally hit shelves. If you like hard sci-fi, or you have an interest in AI geopolitics and alignment, check it out.

Another fun fact that seemed wild to me when I first heard it: Sharks came before the rings of Saturn! (h/t @brianchristian)

I am not in agreement w @anton_d_leicht, @tylercowen or @deanwball (and I'm not a signatory). Letters like this (for any cause) are useful (for that cause). It shows people it is safe to believe something, that it is not verboten to think certain thoughts. The idea you have to
I think this from @tylercowen gets at something important. Prohibition is a specific ask, much more than past statements aiming at awareness. I think that comes with some burden of demonstrating feasibility, beyond widening an underdefined Overton window.

The draft on the book's site takes a multilateral frame. Forthcoming work will explore a US–China bilateral frame, and get into more details. Great work by @aaronscher, @peterbarnett_, @Volty, and Brian Abeyta. https://t.co/U2MkNzc4RQ

Great article by @Will4Planet in the FT. While there are lots of disanalogies, I agree. In fact, MIRI's TechGov team wrote a draft treaty, with annotations and precedent sections for each article, that's included in the online resources for “If Anyone Builds It, Everyone Dies.”

Important thread. Also, stories I've heard of NVIDIA/Jensen's behavior when engaging with policymakers have also been quite concerning. For example via @andrewsharp on Sharp China:
“If you’re going to work on export controls, make sure your boss is prepared to have your back,” one staffer told me. For months, I’ve heard about widespread fear among think tank researchers who publish work against NVIDIA’s interests. Here’s what I’ve learned:🧵

I'm directing a movie for @netflix about AI. Fictional story about very real things. I'm so excited Rachel is playing the lead, and I admire her greatly for not being on social media. 😁 https://t.co/PwGWopOv1F

One Tuesday night, as my wife and I sat down for dinner, a sheriff’s deputy knocked on the door to serve me a subpoena from OpenAI. I held back on talking about it because I didn't want to distract from SB 53, but Newsom just signed the bill so... here's what happened: 🧵

I think the new piece about me in Politico turned out okay. But set the record straight: I think FLI has been doing decently well at speaking with the courage of their convictions over the past couple years.

last night, thanks to @semafor, i had the opportunity to listen to Nate Soares on the potential risks of superintelligence… and he didn’t mince words will be reading his book “If Anyone Builds It, Everyone Dies” to see if i understand his rationale, diversity of thought is key

This is my new favorite interview that @So8res has done related to the book. Dives deeper on a few topics, and has a couple more personal/human moments.
I have a podcast! The World Unpacked: deep, freewheeling conversations with top thinkers on big global trends. First ep is @So8res, the AI prophet of doom whose bestseller with @ESYudkowsky – If Anyone Builds It, Everyone Dies – is the most hotly debated tech book in years.
