Spoke to one IIT Mechanical student who is not able to run a certain simulation problem, which according to his guide should be done in 5 minutes. I am an expert with that tool with over 9 years of experience and I have no idea how to do that in 5 minutes.
IITs should start asking their professors to work in an industry for a few years and actually deliver something. Otherwise, this malaise of looking down on industry work is going to continue.
Now I understand why companies don't want to collaborate with IITs and even when they do, they have no expectations beyond a few papers. It is so infuriating. IITs should probably start employing industry veterans instead of people who never solved any real problems.
Received my first patent granted by Indian Government that started out as a course project back in 2012. Thanks Professor Dibakar Sen and IISc Bangalore.
Is this how we are going to produce industry-ready human resources when faculties have no respect for tools and techniques used in industry? I remember going to an expert professor for a collaboration who said the problem is well below their level.
The attitude is staggering especially when I have come across faculties who couldn't deliver one single project with a patent or a desirable outcome (except a few irrelevant papers that don't amount to anything) after getting so much of funding.
Finally, it took a team of MIT/Standford PhDs from R&D team in industry to solve that problem. It involved computational geometry along with FEA to work together.
Oh, you just simulated in the tool.. I wrote a code myself. Jokes on you, your code can't solve anything beyond a cantilever bending and I deal with 1000+ components with contact nonlinearity.
1. 35 years age limit.
2. Not getting Assistant Prof. Grade II scale without completing 3 years after PhD.
3. Arbitrary recruitment policies like having an undergraduate degree same as the department.
4. Senior profs actively sabotaging careers of high impact juniors.
Today the results of Class 12 is out. There will be a crazy following of the toppers for a few days and really it doesn't matter. This result is not going to ensure a good life or career for many. However let's look at the bright side.
Don't criticize Hima Das for not qualifying for Olympics. Stand with her and wish that she reaches new heights. Remember how far that girl has come and appreciate the dogged determination.
🚨 "India is making 28 nm semiconductor chips, but the best chips in phones are 3 nm. We've got to subsidize a few generations of chip factories to reach the manufacturing frontier" - Raghuram Rajan.
Job melas are like this only. Don't get emotional about it. This emotional response is what keeping people from being successful. Later don't cry about outsiders coming and taking your jobs because you were too sophisticated to wait for a few hours.
@balajiworld
I don't have anything against basic research. But totally ignoring real world applications and not training human resources for future is not something we can afford.
Indian firms will be buying $100 bn of chips a year and 70% of Tata's Assam factory capacity has already been contracted out. N Chandrasekaran has done something that Rajan will never do - put skin in the game.
I hope the firecracker manufacturers across the country comes together and starts a movement against pollution due to vehicles (especially gas-guzzling SUVs used by the establishment). We will see the sensitivity towards pollution then.

, if you want to take a course in continuum mechanics, you opt for Dr. C S Jog, a thin and tall professor with a moustache who keeps rolling and unrolling his sleeves throughout the class.
If you are ordering food online, order some extra food and share it with the delivery person. Many of them are working under heavy risk and not getting places to eat due to lockdown.
Serious question: what do you suggest for someone who completed BTech ECE in 2015, spent 9 years preparing for government jobs and battling health issues, and now looking for a job? It breaks my heart to see someone like this but what's the remedy?
Assamese intellectuals will oppose this so that normal people continue to travel in dilapidated buses and they can travel in luxury cars bought with their generational corruption stolen from the people.
People commenting that Lovlina shouldn't get a job or given accolades etc...
Why?
So that 10 years later you can tweet a picture of her struggling to blame government and get RTs?
Somewhere in Assam. A rocket made of banana stem and offering to God for success of the mission. Somehow,
@isro
has evoked the best of humanity and touched not just the moon but even the Gods.
The best way to solve this problem is slowly reduce the number of seats in IAS/IPS and take lateral entries at all levels. Defang the exam and at one point close down the UPSC.
As mentioned, it perfectly fine to attempt the UPSC or other such exams, but only if the person wants to be an administrator. The problem is that lakhs of people are spending 5-8 years repeatedly doing this exam as a "way of life". This is such a waste of youthful energy
Fully support doing this. I would want them to have a 500 crore budget that runs outreach programs to reach every school and every nook and corner of the country and everyone should just talk about ISRO instead of dumb celebrities.
ISRO hired an agency and spent 1.7 Crores for public outreach during Chandrayaan 2 (it was worth it tbh), for works involving animation, graphics, video editing, and printing banners, brochures, and posters. No such agency was hired for Chandrayaan 3 and MOM.
The continued opposition to privatization of Guwahati airport baffles me. Do you think the government is doing an excellent job running the airport or for that matter, anything else?
All stupid people asking if getting a job is the only thing in a sports person's mins, you won't understand it from your ivory towers. I refuse to explain further. I'm very happy that she has won Gold and she should be given a job.
"UP Govt has a policy that if you win Gold Medal at Asian Games, you will be offered DSP rank in UPP. This was in my mind while going all out in the last lap of the race."

Such an honest interview, this will bring smile to your face.❤️
Got to know of multiple poor students getting government jobs in Nursing/Police/Health departments of Assam Government. One guy literally cried while giving me the news. Good day !!
Government of Assam should spend some money and get Christopher Nolan & Hans Zimmer to make two movies on
- Srimanta Shankardev
- Lachit Barphukan
The Lachit movie will start with drips of blood from his HengDang falling onto the Momai Kota Garh.
Tourism will soar !!
I interacted with 100+ students in the past week, all of them from class 11/Science. Here are some observations :
Percentages are approximate.
1. 80% of students have never heard of Employment News.
As an ex-Cottonian, Assamese students should dare to think beyond Cotton College. For all its past glory, there is hardly any research or career oriented systems are there. We need more Assamese students in variety of fields, and not just get emotional about a college.

Hoping to shed some light on some urgent needs of Assam and if possible suggest solutions.
1/n A plethora of central government labs and institutes for both STEM and social science domains. This will a first step to industrialization of Assam.
Why is it anyone's fault that a process of selection entirely consisting of written exam can't be cleared by anyone from Assam? How is it someone else's fault? Our students are busy with Dimpu/Zubeen, instead of trying to get a job.
The biggest issue plaguing Assam is that small Shikhar gutkha is priced at 12 rupees but customers want it at 10. Witnessed 3 situations from today morning.
Many Congratulations to HCM
@himantabiswa
Sir on this historic decision of a semiconductor manufacturing establishment in Assam. This is truly a giant leap for Assam and a historic one from discussing terror & bullets to manufacturing high end chips for new age industries.…
During 2012-15 at IISc, I built a fully mechanical robot that can be controlled by just one motor just for the heck of it. The idea and preliminary design came from a senior. I still consider it the greatest thing I have done.

Instead of laughing at them, we should get them to design something innovative through IITs. Atleast this was a working prototype compared to stupid BTech projects done by many engineering graduates.
When will the teachers who got paid in full even during Covid explain this pass percentage? You can't always blame the government, especially when you're part of the government.
China has never recognized so-called "Arunachal Pradesh," which is China's south Tibet region, and we have no details to release yet about question on Indian army sending a message to PLA about five missing Indians in the region: Chinese FM spokesperson Zhao Lijian
@balajiworld
IITs are not just for basic research, but for engineering. Engineering, by definition, is applied science. And I'm asking IITs to be industry training centres but be respectful of the real world applications.
If
@himantabiswa
manages to dismantle the white elephant called the Brahmaputra Board and donate the large office area to a few private companies, I will be very happy.

The fight to preserve Assamese language and culture won't be won by protests, special status, or webinars by esteemed intellectuals. Rather it would be won by economics.
Today I was asked by a security guard about Chandrayaan 3. He's excited about it because his son is waiting for him to come back home and watch it in YouTube together. This is what
@isro
has done, giving wings to everyone to dream.
Earlier I used to get impressed by families where everyone is working in high positions. Now a days, I get suspicious after knowing so many cases of nepotism.
Instead I get impressed by Hima Das and Lovlina.
In collaboration with the Tata Group, 1800 girls across Assam were recruited to work in semiconductor processing.
Many of them have reached Bangalore for their training & shared with me a wonderful video of their journey.
Wishing them all the best!

1. Assam's ranking came down from 17 to 20.
2. Assam shouldn't be competing with the NE states, it should compete with Karnataka/AP
3. Assam is the gateway to NE. It's not an achievement if it's not the top performer within NE.
Assam has emerged as the top performer amongst North Eastern states in State Business Reform Action Plan Ranking 2019.

Some thoughts on Sri Raghupati
Exceptionally well made film. We watched Mission China and Kanchanjangha just because they were Assamese films and not because they were well made. Acting was good.
Cinematography was good.
Humour was good and standard.
