Today is #InternationalAlbinismAwarenessDay so I thought I’d share some info about albinism and my experience of it. First off, 'Albino' isn’t a medical term and is often used in a derogatory way, so please stick to ‘person with albinism’, ‘they have albinism’. #IAAD #IAAD2019

As part of our Strategic Plan development, we are asking a series of questions to get people thinking about disabled and neurodivergent children and young people and STEM.  Today is the FIRST day and we are asking:

London @SLCouncils volunteers took a trip to @BatterseaPwrStn this morning to test out the My Eyes navigation app with @ethosfarmUK. We were able to give feedback on what navigation prompts would be useful to help guide blind and partially sighted people to the shopping centre.

Great start to the week finding new departure boards at Clapham Junction Station! They are so much easier to read for those of us with low vision, and everyone else too I expect!

Brilliant opportunity yesterday with London @SLCouncils members to meet senior @TfL engineers to discuss issues blind and partially sighted people face in navigating the built environment. Signal and zebra crossings, cycle lanes, bus stops and street furniture were all raised.

So proud of this event🥰

A really interested exhibition to attend! Our North London @SLCouncils will be focusing more on Health related work over the coming year, and engagement with the #Oriel project will be key. A wonderful bonus was reading a case study about our lovely colleague @NickiDietrich 👏

Great to attend this mornings @TfL Inclusive Transport Forum with South West London @SLCouncils member @VickyBlencowe. As always a great opportunity to hear about upcoming TfL projects and try to ensure that blind and partially sighted people are considered.

@ethosfarmUK @navilens @ProcterGamble The second part of the session was all about product accessibility and identification. @SLCouncils member @VickyBlencowe demonstrated apps including SeeingAI, BeMyEyes and NaviLens.

@ethosfarmUK @navilens Our final speaker is Paul from @ProcterGamble, sharing how accessibility is a priority for them, including how blind and partially sighed people can identify products through tactile markings and NaviLens codes.

@ethosfarmUK Next we’re hearing Oran from @navilens, all about how NaviLens works and how it’s used across the retail sector.

First up is JP from @ethosfarmUK, telling us how their Guest Services teams at Battersea Power Station and Westfields Shopping Centres support blind and partially sighted shoppers.
