More public $ would be great but the report's last clause is doing a lot of work: "and dismantling barriers to affordable housing construction in local zoning codes." We could fix many (not all) of our housing woes for no public $ through zoning/permitting/building code reforms

Co-sign. Cities must become much more family friendly. Full stop. But even as-is I think too many give up and move to the burbs, but on net miss out.

Tons of missing middle housing and modest starter homes going up in Bozeman, Montana, where we’re visiting for a month. It’s certainly sprawl-y, but also really exciting to be in a growing city with ambition and an eye towards the future.

Boston's total population has increased by ~100k since 1980, but it's school-aged pop has declined by almost 30k.
