If you’d like to meet up over a coffee or Zoom, let me know! I’m overdue to catch up with so many of you, and it feels a bit surreal to finally have this space and time to do so. And if you see something you think might be a good fit for me, I’m all ears.

What’s next for me? You’ll have to stay tuned. Right now I’m taking a bit of time to unwind and spend some extra time with my son (AKA the world’s most adorable toddler), while I figure out what I want to do next.

There’s a lot I will miss about OpenMedia, but more than anything I will miss the incredible people—past and present—that made the organization so special. I want to thank each of you for your support of me and our work. And I look forward to connecting with you again.

And, along the way, I learned more about public policy, government relations, and grassroots advocacy than I ever imagined possible.

It’s been a privilege to lead this organization and empower our grassroots community. Even against better resourced opponents, we always found a way to punch above our weight.

Personal update: After seven years as OpenMedia’s Executive Director, I have decided to begin my next chapter. It was a difficult decision to leave an organization I love so much, but it’s time for new challenges.

"The only way to restore trust is by taking action. It’s one thing to say you’re serious about #privacy; it’s another thing to show it," writes @ltribe, Executive Director @OpenMediaOrg via @TheHillTimes Tribe's #InformedOps @ https://t.co/FHODwwGAe7

If the government truly wants to show Canadians that our privacy rights matter, it needs to pass strong data protection laws as soon as possible.

Canadian digital policies have consequences: potential blocked services due to Bill C-11, blocked news links due to Bill C-18, and perhaps blocked AI services also due to Bill C-18. Canada fast becoming a digital outlier. https://t.co/wItdNra8c3

Canada is now one of only a few countries in the world — alongside Russia and China — not to have access to Google’s artificial-intelligence-based chatbot Bard, as Google’s stand-off with the Liberal government over regulation continues https://t.co/0oQzISGVTj via @nationalpost

Given that the government has no Plan B, this was predictable. But to be clear, the law hasn’t taken effect yet nor has widespread blocking. This is about refusal to *negotiate* with @pablorodriguez about a law that has already received royal assent.

We have decided to take the necessary step of suspending all Government of Canada advertising to Facebook. We cannot continue paying advertising dollars to Meta while they refuse to pay their fair share to Canadian news organizations.

Put that Government of Canada advertising $ straight into buying ads in the local independent media that aren't being supported by C-18.

Tired of Big Telecom's monopoly on fibre internet? There's 1 WEEK remaining to tell the CRTC to take action. This is our change to mandate fibre access for independent providers and break up the monopoly. https://t.co/iaCDWtiVeQ #EnforceFibreWholesale via @OpenMediaOrg

I don't think Alberta realizes how much the telecom world is about to change here today after the Shaw-Rogers merger.

And there you have it. Federal government sides with Big Telecom instead of Canadians but tries to gaslight us into believing the opposite.
