Tonight the Conservatives voted to raise taxes on the wages of the poor, not the wealth of the super-rich.
That tells you everything about who they really represent.
The Michael Gove interview on BBC this morning was pure comedy. He should definitely come to Alloa and walk through the streets and ask people what they think of him. 14/10 would bring popcorn 🍿
I'm totally unclear why it's called radical to believe that we don't need billionaires, that we do need to prevent
#ClimateCatastrophe
& that people should be paid fairly for their work. I don't mind being called radical, I just don't think that these things are.
Well, except people who could have taken a train, but decided to fly in a private jet to *the* conference on how we have to stop carbon emissions... FFS
Thank you everyone! As the last MSP declared in all of Scotland yesterday, I was up past my bedtime and am now up very early to do morning tele, so thank yous and responses to your kind words of support will have to wait until I've had some sleep! I do appreciate all the support!
Thank you everyone for your support. I'm so disappointed I didn't get to answer the question about trans healthcare (I'd like to see this fully integrated) and about the details of our plans to invest in the renewables sector - which I work in!
I was delighted to be able to witness this family of beavers arrive at their new home in Loch Lomond National Nature Reserve. The habitat here is exactly right for beavers and I hope that they settle well into their new home 🦫💚

Well. Nicola was fantastic. Ross absolutely awful, angry, obsessed and simply embarrassing. I think the public will tire of the Sarwar mock sincerity stuff quickly. Quite liked the Green. Absolutely no opinion on Wullie.

Promoters of 'Devo max' options must know that the UK Government can't be trusted on devolution. The Internal Market Act undermines Scotland's devolved powers, including those we need to protect our environment; only independence will secure those powers for good.

I had a positive Covid-19 test result. I feel very relieved to be double vaccinated and have only cold-like symptoms. I will be self-isolating following NHS advice.
Hilarious way to refer to Scotland and the work of the Scottish Government. We're working hard to make life better for the people of Scotland. Free bus travel for young people is a great example of this. I'm proud to be part of the Government who delivered this for Scotland.
Himself and I are out socialising later today, so we've done our lateral flow tests just to check before we head out. We'll take masks, wash our hands and keep our distance as well. The numbers are really scary everyone. Take care!

I have pronouns in my bio because mis-gendering someone is awkward AF and it is a little courtesy that I can provide, like saying 'please' and 'thank you', to help everyone get along confidently. You don't have to do it, but wouldn't it be a nicer world if everyone did?
Nobody should be abused or harassed at work, just as nobody should have to put up with being constantly mis-gendered throughout a newspaper article.

It's in the official report as part of Rachael Hamilton's speech: "I have been left to wonder when the Government will unveil the next minister for compost, country bumpkins and the winter solstice."
Apparently she doesn't think highly of tenants or biodiversity.

The UK Labour Party
@labour
, by rejecting proportional representation has reinforced my belief that the UK is fundamentally unreformable. It is stuck with an unwritten constitution, unelected Lords and Tory majorities for the foreseeable. No ability to adapt or change.

My husband once got torn into small pieces for saying he'd be along in a minute to help me with the house work. (for anyone who may be confused by this, I don't 'help him' to pay the bills, I pay *my fair share* of *our* bills)
Nothing gender critical people say will convince me that the trans people who I know and love are a danger to me or my rights, but I'm 100% convinced that the GCs are a danger to my trans friends and colleagues. So there we are.

Scotland already has baby boxes, free prescriptions, free school meals, & free social care. We'll shortly get free bus travel for young people & all this other good stuff.
Gradually making Scotland a better and fairer place to live. Proud to live here.🏴
The UK is a climate disaster. Scotland could do so much better as an independent country. The Scottish Government knows that demand for aviation must decline to meet our climate targets. That the
@Conservatives
would do this the week before
#COP26
shows how out of touch they are.
Actually I said, "When you're talking with the UK later today make sure we get the investment we need to build new industries and create new jobs" and "When can we have a national energy company to support those industries?" but you do you.
I am genuinely honoured and humbled by this. Politics is hard work and it is vital, important work, but it can still be loving, nurturing, fun and funny. Let's keep our humour and keep up the hard work.
Stage 1 of the GRA reform bill today. A really important day for equality and human rights in Scotland.

for all your work on this as our equalities spokesperson.
I'm having vague flashbacks of a shouty man who felt that the only thing more important than the constitution, was giving more tax payer's money to oil and gas companies.
That doesn't seem like very good policy.

Oh look young people of the UK. The
@Conservatives
have just taken away your freedom of movement. No longer do you have the right to live, work and study without restrictions in any of 27 countries. Your world just got smaller and less interesting, your future a bit more bleak.
After many years of campaigning, I am delighted the Immigration Bill which will end free movement on 31st December has today passed through Parliament.
We are delivering on the will of the British people.
Delighted to attend Bute House today with

"Scratch under the surface of the Scottish Green Party and you find not a cuddly group of promoters of cycling, recycling and protecting wildlife, but a group of hard-left extremists," writes Murdo Fraser.
Thank you to all the members of the
@scottishgreens
for engaging in our party's democratic process and debate. Today was an extraordinary day, Greens will be in government for the first time in the UK. I'm looking forward to getting to work.
Today the Scottish Greens made an historic decision.
We will enter government for the first time ever, after an overwhelming vote in favour of the cooperation agreement with the SNP Government.
This is what we want to see in politics. Parties rolling up their sleeves and getting to work on the big problems that face us, not just screaming playground insults and negativity at each other across the debating chamber.
Quite a lot of water under the bridge since then. If we believe in governing by consent, we should see if people have changed their minds. Surely if the union is so wonderful, you'd look forward to campaigning for it? This position just looks like you're afraid you'll lose.
Absolutely. There is no shortage of money. We've been letting the world's rich rob us blind while children go hungry, the sick go untreated and those who need care don't get it.
When you hear people claim that there is no magic money tree" what they really mean is that they lack the will to deal with this totally immoral plunder of our common wealth.
The amount of money hoarded offshore is almost unimaginable:

Homophobia and transphobia are not welcome in the Scotland I want to build.
Nor are racism, sexism, Islamaphobia or ableism. Radical equality and inclusion AKA treat everyone as you yourself would wish to be treated.
Today a Scottish parliamentary candidate stated that we are campaigning to lower the age of consent. This is categorically untrue. Such claims are dangerous and irresponsible and we would urge those making or sharing these claims to stop.
Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak aren't offering change. They are offering more of the same cruel cuts, racist deportations and contempt for Scotland's democracy. With the powers of independence we can build a fairer, greener and better future.
Thank you to the excellent BSL interpreters. It is the first time that I've worked with live interpreters and I hope that I spoke at a pace that worked for signing.
It seems that my visit to Rum has attracted a lot of attention. 👀
It was a great visit and over the course of the day I managed to meet every (adult) resident present on this beautiful island today. 🧵
Last May the people of Scotland elected a pro-independence majority. They gave us a clear mandate to hold a referendum on Scotland's future.
With the powers of independence we can move on from Liz Truss and Boris Johnson, and build a fairer, greener future.
Douglas Lumsden helpfully reminding us that there is

Without proportional representation it's practically impossible to get rid of them. I'm glad Scotland has a more functional democracy but we need independence as well.

Cis is a way to indicate that your gender identity matches that which you were assigned at birth, an, occasionally useful, distinction which I'm happy to use to describe myself. Of course, as I believe trans women to be women, when I say women as a general term I include trans.
An MSP just tried to effectively ban the word cisgender from Parliament. I know & respect that some people don't accept it or identify with it, and I used it yesterday in a way which positively reflected that. But many do identify with it, and that should be respected too.

Liz Truss isn't only disrespecting the First Minister, she is showing contempt for our Parliament and for everyone who voted for a pro-independence majority last May.
🧵Not a step my wife & I have taken lightly. After our nursery application for our daughter was refused a 2nd time, my wife asked her White Scottish friend to put in an application for a Child the same age. Within 24hrs of refusing our application my wife's friend's was accepted.
This is the opposite direction of where we want to get! A 4 day working week for a living wage is what we should be aiming for. The future can be brilliant, we just have to decide to make it so! We can build a better future for young people and all workers.
Here's the Tory Secretary of State for Work saying that taking £1000 a year away from the poorest families will be help them, and they should just work harder. Unbelievably callous and out of touch.
