It took the media a while to catch on to the fact that ICE = student absences. But now that the media is covering the educational cost of deportation, students are using their absences as a form of protest. And I love it. https://t.co/lJZsCXHhG4

To protest a brutal and illegitimate ICE/Border Patrol surge in Charlotte, North Carolina, hundreds of high school students across the Charlotte area staged walkouts, while an estimated 30,000...

"Raiding the Heartland" by @lopez_wd brings us into the heart of communities targeted by large-scale ICE deportations, chronicling the devastating impacts of immigration raids—and the enduring resistance of immigrant communities in the aftermath. https://t.co/BZs4SpVisP

A scholar looked at how the enforcement tactic upends communities, leaving many feeling “like a tornado” hit their town.

Raiding the Heartland https://t.co/bCbmcbcxwf - Great book coming out on Sept 23 by @lopez_wd…rural communities are not discussed enough from my perspective as books regarding immigration policy often focus on diverse urban areas. Excited for something different…

As we ponder the fallout of this latest administrative decision, the legal and humanitarian debates around such state-run immigration detention centers rage on.

Congratulations to @LatNewsletter board member @lopez_wd on his new book!
It's here! It's hard to relay the feeling of holding your book in your hand for the first time. Before today, it's only been a file on my computer, but something about a paper book makes it so real. Times are dark right now, yes, but I'm going to celebrate, just for a moment.

This actually makes it even more grotesque. Of course the first people to die have pre-existing health problems. Starvation is a eugenic policy which first kills off the weakest and sickest. Israel acts like proving "preexisting health problems" is a defense. It's an indictment.
We have appended an Editors' Note to a story about Mohammed Zakaria al-Mutawaq, a child in Gaza who was diagnosed with severe malnutrition. After publication, The Times learned that he also had pre-existing health problems. Read more below.

[Cue DHS origin story] Govt changed Immigration & Naturalization Services to Department of Homeland Security in pursuit of funding & militarization. "Homeland" required a foreigner & "Security" required danger. Viola. It's now about protection from the "dangerous foreigner."

Because they identify themselves as “police.” Which they are not. Everyone-even ICE-knows that the purpose of this is deception. ICE calls them “the ruses” and defines and teaches them in training.
Why are you demonizing American law enforcement officers with outright LIES @ChrisMurphyCT? They are enforcing the LAW that Congress created. When they conduct operations, they clearly identify themselves as law enforcement while wearing masks to protect themselves from being
