Last night I was reminiscing about the days when GPDR was a thing. The hours of training, the panic about lists on walls, or names on pegs, no Christmas card lists or you’d be jailed. Ofsted ready to pounce. Who’d have thought it would have turned out to be nearly all bollocks.

@llewelyn20 Can I just say, I think many of us realised this from the outset. Still plenty of examples of "we're not allowed...." It's crazy how common sense is so easily abandoned.

@Mr_PaintPots Yes, but you were fighting against the tide by raising these things.

@llewelyn20 Strangely, my former employer sent a letter out to most staff this month about a data breach instigated by their own DPO. Happened in 2014. Names, addresses. No bank details. I've moved house since and got married. I don't give a shiny one. Waste of paper.

@llewelyn20 Ah but do you now pay someone to make sure you're compliant in it or to deal with any issues? A whole raft of new companies for schools to pay out to every year a bit like a subscription you have but you can't remember why till Ofsted asks.

@llewelyn20 And the threat that if you made a mistake, you would be liable for millions of Euros, but not as many millions as your school/company. Madness.

@llewelyn20 And one day in lockdown I accidentally cc'd the parents in my class instead of backing them. Ordered to send out individual emails of apology and the Head had to report me somewhere ... County I think 🤔

@llewelyn20 Would now be a good time to tell you that post Brexit the government are planning their own bespoke version to be implemented in 2022/3. Imaginatively called UK-GDPR. Coming to a twilight near you soon!

@llewelyn20 Some multi-academy trusts have made entire job roles out of GDPR audits and compliance checks. Whole teams of people keeping files of ‘evidence’ & audit trails on schools, to avoid “million pound fines”. Crazy waste of public money.

@llewelyn20 I remember we had a 2 hour session on this run by the local council during an inset day. We were told we couldn't record marks in mark books or take exercise books out of school to mark them. The head looked increasingly ill throughout it 🤣
