When I got my start, I was surprised by how many writers were children of doctors. And then I got it. It is really, really hard to survive in LA...AND also having the headspace and energy to stay creative? Nearly impossible without some sort of cushion.
"Who are the people who will be able to survive long enough to eventually become a seasoned writer? Not folks who are going to struggle to afford rent, or have massive student loans, or don't have parents who can help support them."
