Let’s see how our (UNOFFICIAL) combined Metro & Rail map would look with some possible* future extensions. We’ve added: - Metro Washington Loop - Leamside Line - Northumberland Line extension - Bensham Curve - Infill stations at Gateshead Quays, Murton, Belford & Killingworth.

Whilst uncertainty continues around the proposed Gateshead Quays Arena & Conference Centre, across the river, operators Legends Global announce its intention to plough up to £65M to upgrade the Newcastle Utilita Arena! https://t.co/DnmG5CbPVe

The fully renovated former fire station, now Hotel Gotham Newcastle (and its ‘Fire’ bar) looks very smart. 👌

The ‘New Bridge Project’ would certainly help transform the western side of the CME:

@bandkbuild @bandkphoto @Ryder1953 I presume rather than a continuous row of HVM bollards they’ve tried to break it up with some concrete blocks disguised as seating, but it looks untidy IMO & acts as an obstacle course. Careful manoeuvring will be required by bus drivers & wheelchair users to board/alight here.

@bandkbuild @bandkphoto @Ryder1953 The pavement on the eastern side of Pilgrim Street has now reopened, following the Practical Completion of Pilgrim’s Quarter. (3rd photo is looking through the fencing at the yet to open New Bridge Street West side).

This week I was lucky enough to ride a Northumberland Line preview service, ahead of public service commencing in December. Here’s a few snaps... 🧵 Our train at Central, a class 158 Express Sprinter operated by Northern, which will whisk us up to Ashington & back.

Installation of planters and seating is really coming along now on Northumberland Street, outside Haymarket Station.

Another great video by BerniciaP (is he on here??) about the past life & potential future of Manors as a transport hub: https://t.co/q3byTYaM4F And I completely agree:

My (unqualified) thoughts should Manors mainline be redeveloped in future for improved service & accessibility, and presumably increased line capacity too. Two straight (4-car) platforms beneath/south of Argle St, with long disability-compliant ramps up to the over-bridge. (1/2)

I still wish Dutch Entrance Kerbs (continuous pavements) had been installed at Pilgrim Street’s junctions with Shakespeare St, High Bridge & Market Lane, to reinforce pedestrian priority on this busy thoroughfare. I’m yet to experience a driver give way as per the road markings.

#NewcastleUponTyne While since I was in the town so interested to see the progress of the changes to Northumberland Street. Pavement blocks create quite an attractive design and I noticed that in a certain light they sparkle.

*We tried to lean more towards ambitious but possible, rather than go full fantasy mode. Have we been too unrealistic, or rightly optimistic? 🤔 What would you add?

This would make such a difference to the street scene! Currently, Hadrian House and its walls and old sky bridge are just awful.
