The most clear-headed post of the fire emergency so far.
Some thoughts on the LA fires, given the curious situation that I find myself in. being in the midst of a macro calamity. To be clear, I don't believe in "reports from the ground." they are often actually the least sober. Least useful. So. a cautious and modest 🧵.

Wow, @ellievhall @NiemanLab with the motherlode of expert, carefully reported and contextualized info on how the royal family is covered by the media and what’s gone down since late 2023.
Over the past week, a LOT of people have been asking me when I was going to write something about Kate Middleton's "disappearance." . I talked to @NiemanLab about the princess, the palace, and the press — and laid out a timeline of the entire saga.

“The most straightforward and revolutionary solution” for getting formerly incarcerated people firmly back on their feet and helping to ease labor shortages. Very proud of @samjschaeffer and @ceoworks for this profile of their powerful work

Joining a raft of initiatives aimed at helping the formerly incarcerated, a program gives money to defray expenses they face, including court fines and rent.

We are in crisis. @SenSchumer, why has Canada reacted more swiftly than we have? Americans’ faith in Congress is hanging in the balance.

Heartbreak on top of heartbreak. @SylvesterTurner, David Mincberg, Luther Villagomez, @Marriott — and so many other individuals and companies who lacked the courage and conscience to say “not this weekend in Texas,” shame on you.

Thank you, @SylvesterTurner for acknowledging our campaign to disrupt the NRA event. To be clear: the campaign to cancel is about decency and respect for Texans and Americans who are in pain. It is not about politics, policies, money and contracts. This is a bad look for Houston.

Horrible. Call or email the COO of the Houston Convention Center, Luther Villagomez, and ask him to cancel the NRA’s event contract for this weekend: Luther.Villagomez@houstonfirst.com 832-330-7786.
"At that same period where they're going to be burying these children, we're going to be having media . trying to run through the exhibit hall, looking at kids fondling firearms, which is going to be a horrible, horrible, horrible juxtaposition," says NRA lobbyist Jim Baker”.

Thank you to @TheCut for sharing my tweet and compiling these action items. You can also try emailing the GM of @Marriott, which is providing lodging for NRA conference attendees this weekend: hans.prins@marriott.com

You wrote *hundreds* of emails to the Houston convention center’s board chairman in the last 24 hours. 👏🏻 Now let’s tell Hans Prins, GM of @Marriott, that he should cancel his company’s participation in the NRA event this weekend: hans.prins@marriott.com.
If you want to take tangible action tonight, email the man who has the power to cancel the NRA event in Houston this weekend. His name is David Mincberg. He’s a Democrat. He’s chairman of the board that owns the convention center hosting the NRA: dmincberg@flagshipco.com 1/2.
