We ran this on Holesky in '24 for a few months and it's prone to market manipulation. - Traders would put on large long positions, and then stuff the blockspace with garbage thus manipulating the base fee price - Validators would take short positions and propose empty blocks
We need a good trustless onchain gas futures market. (Like, a prediction market on the BASEFEE) I've heard people ask: "today fees are low, but what about in 2 years? You say they'll stay low because of increasing gaslimit from BAL + ePBS + later ZK-EVM, but do I believe you?"

On the flip side, we can synthetically increase block times from 12 secs to 12.8mins (64 blocks). In this case, MEV ratchets up to 8x what it is today - about $2.4bln or ~ 2% in yields at the EL (Execution Layer).
