It’s a form of a selfishness really, you see geezers get married and then get diagnosed with cancer or dementia weeks later. Healthcare is a mess, everything now has to be routed through the new “spouse” insurance, bills, inheritance, often no communication with the kids. Horrid

A peace of advice a geriatrician I worked with gave me. Never remarry in old age. Even if that person is your soulmate (or seems to be), just don’t do it. It ruins any sort of family relationship. It makes inheritance next to impossible to sort out. No one ends up better for it

@leamaric Make sure ALL 401k's, Roth IRA's, and any Bank Accounts to include any CD's or other related investment vehicles are ALL marked as POD (Pay On Death) to either you or a designated POA (Power of Attorney) representative be it family or 3rd party or better yet a Financial Attorney.

Guys I need some advice and just general knowledge on parent death and preparation. The paperwork and wills are all iron clad, more on the emotional aspects and dealing with extended family in America and how people do things here. Any tips are greatly appreciated.
