broke by Elmo. This was made for my sanity-Film, Music & Art.CBGB’s Punk 70’s-80’s. I know where the bodies are buried.
My dad was in the music business since the 50's. He crusaded for all the black musicians who never received their due. Brother has been photographer for 30 yrs-films & official for music's legends. Me-20 yrs lived,DJ/band in NYC LES. New just about everyone.Lived to tell the tale
My Queen. This is a pic that shows Sonic Youth playing for the first time on stage, anywhere. I was there that night, sometime in the summer of ‘84. Maxwell’s, Hoboken NJ
I need to point something out. All of these tapes were made at Maxwells in Hoboken NJ a place that was my second home for so many years. I even worked there. I saw all of these bands there plus countless others before they became famous. It is sorely missed 🎸🎤🎶🥹
QT with the album that changed your life - It’s kind of odd, many years after it’s release, as a girl growing up in Hoboken, New Jersey, this album got me through my early teenage years. I branched out from it and music was never the same since.
It’s my annual tribute to my Queen Kim. I’ve seen Sonic Youth more times than I can remember. From their 1st days at Maxwells then NYC to LA. I’m thrilled she came out with her own solo record. She will always be my shero. Pics are from their 1st gigs at Maxwells to CBGB's 🎸👑
@RealEmirHan
I still can’t get over Tom Cruise’s outspoken takes on Scientology. He’s been fantastic in many roles, but then he goes back to being Tom Cruise.
Probably my favorite picture of Joey Ramone. I lived down the street from here and went for the “punk cut” all of the time. Joey was often there hanging out with everybody. It all seems like a dream now.
Miss him.
Kurt came over a few times a couple blocks from me. I grew up in Hoboken right by Maxwells. The complete’ 89 show is totally cleaned up &all over YouTube. Also the’90 show which is sound.I was at both of course.I wanted too post pictures that are personal my neighborhood,my home
Happy Birthday Kurt (February 20, 1967 – April 5, 1994)
Nirvana
Come As You Are
Reading Festival (1991)
Come as you are
As you were
As I want you to be
To whomever may care. I have a lifelong emersion in film w family in the industry.Same applies to the music biz back to the 50’s.Studied at NYU & by living in NYC from the 60s-90s. Currently living in LaLaLand. Not a professional,but can shoot the shit about any of this all night
@larwoolf
My mother was a dancer when I was a kid and she knew this dance routine (Obviously not near Tina level). We practiced this in the living room all the time. I want to thank Tina for giving me some of the best memories of my life.
I have tons of pics from a bar about a block and a half from me that I never post, in this case I have to.
Here's Kim Gordon in the first show Sonic Youth played on stage
@PunkRockStory
To my all time favorite account on this site. To all of us Ramones fanatics long may you reign. To all other punk rockers I wish you the best 2024 possible!
Punk is not Dead!!!🎸😎🥳👊
@PunkRockStory
All good, but I’ve seen Henry Rollins so many times that he’s forever my guy.
Here’s Henry at Maxwells in ‘85 at one of the many spoken word shows I saw there.
@PunkRockStory
I can’t help myself. I saw Sonic Youth play at Maxwells many times throughout the 80’s. But here is our girl playing live on any stage for the first time EVER! Ah, 1982🎸
I say this every time I see this picture,this is just so wrong. As someone whose lived her first 40 yrs in NYC & last 20 in LA-1)The Ramones exist in black and white in dimly lit cramped spaces with debris all around 2)LA is sunny every single day. They do not mix people!!!😎🎸🤭
I just posted this elsewhere. But, here’s Fugazi at Maxwells, no idea when, no clue what they’ve playing, all I’m trying to do is serve shots and beers.
@ReturnofR
There’s a quite a lot more now that I’m older. Funny how that is. But “God only knows” always takes me to another level than just about any song that exists.
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…I spent my life in this exact spot for over a decade. This Goddess is a beautiful representation of it's place and time. Bless you Queen😎
I’ve been waiting on responding to this because it’s blowing my mind. I haven’t seen this clip before but…I am right there, literally, about 5 people back from the stage. Watching this is watching a long lost memory. Thank you so much for posting this!😎🎸😘
This is such a sad day for me. I spent the late 70’s through the late 80’s in the lower east side. It basically formed my identity that I still feel today even though I live in LaLaLand. Tom was a huge part of that. I feel like I lost part of myself. RIP Tom, you are missed.
Terrible news again
Tom Verlaine, the frontman of influential New York punk rock band Television, died in Manhattan on Saturday at the age of 73 after a short illness.
Rest in peace Tom

I’ve seen Nirvana so many times,very up close & personal between ‘89 & '91.Even before Dave Grohl,(+someone else who’s name escapes me).I have a pictures of them on on my particular Hoboken street.Unfortunately I've never seen The Buzzcocks (I think).Even so,they are quite a pair
@RockNRoLL_85
Let’s see…Pete was one of the best writers and innovators,Roger had the pipes and could sure swing a microphone,Entwistle was one of the best bassists of all time and Moon was a drummer extraordinaire who could never will be replaced,he essentially made them The Who.That’s it!🎸
Another album that defined my life!I was a teenager living in Hells Kitchen when this was released.2 years later I moved to the LES,St Marks Place,mostly because of this album & my need to be a part of it all.Stayed for over a decade & the rest is history! Thanks for the memories
This video was filmed in my home away from home-Maxwell’s in Hoboken, NJ. It’s so wild seeing it because even though these are mostly extras it just of easily been me.
I saw them there 3-4? times. Always amazing.🎸😎
Thank you so much for posting this. Not only is this one of my favorite Bowie songs it’s also one of my favorite songs of all time. I can watch this everyday! 👨🎤
Ok I didn’t even know that this was a “thing” until I looked up this picture. I feel violated! This is exactly where I got my hair cut folks because I lived down the street from it. Now this pic is a meme/poster/thing
😠☹️😎🎸
I love him. I was fortunate enough to have a brother who was one of his official photographers. Because of that I was lucky enough to see him many times right by the stage. I think I got sweat all over me.
Oh boy.This place was my home away from home for roughly 10 yrs.I got to know these guys, as down to earth as it gets.I got close with one of their wives.She sends me old Polaroids, pics from her backyard. The most interesting combos of people hung out there. Just drinking beers
My brother has been one of Iggy’s official photographers for years. So lucky me has been right up front just about every time he played in NYC. I practically had his sweat hitting me. It has been such an honor to witness an absolute legend.These are memories I will always cherish
I’m a bit late, but I wanted to thank you Joey for being an extremely friendly acquaintance for over a decade, for providing so many years of memories from both CBGB’s and my turntable and of course for blowing my eardrums out and giving me tinnitus (it was worth it!😅😎😘)
I posted this yesterday. I’ve seen Nirvana so many times,very up close & personal between ‘89 & '91.Even before Dave Grohl ( and?).I have a lot of pictures of them on on my particular Hoboken street. (Smoke stacks are Maxwell’s pre blow up. Other 2 are our stoops and my “park”.
What a tremendous loss. As far as I knew he was a terrific person. I saw them a few times back in the 80’s at their regular downtown gigs. I’ll always treasure those memories.♥️
@RealEmirHan
For me it’s Godfather 2. Immediately after the flashback from the very beginning with the family all together and how it was such a different world, especially for Michael, followed by this shot is perfection.
Wow. When I initially heard this song it was a rallying cry for getting Nazi Punks out of NYC. Now, it a rallying cry I shout at the world just about every single day.
@maydaymindy9
To me this is such a no brainer.Grew up in Jersey near to L.I. You heard them both constantly.There’s no comparison.Bruce is a poet who’s evolved over the decades.Not all good but he always puts his heart into it.His live shows are like revivals. BJ has always been a pop star
@PunkRockStory
I live pretty close.But I’m thinking,I’m an old Punk,I’ll be surrounded by old Punks,watching a stage full of old Punks.This line up is absolutely insane,but,all in one day?!Standing?!I’m sure it’s expensive as hell.The parking?You don’t care about any of this as a young Punk😎🎸
That looks like Maxwell’s in Hoboken NJ in ‘89. I was there! They have a cleaned up video of that on YouTube so I think that’s it. Not only a 4th guy but no Dave Grohl either. I have tons of pics of them in Hoboken at the time. Talk about memories!
Or I’m wrong 😂
I’ll say it again, as a native NYCer who spent a better part of 40 years in the LES, then moved into the blaring L. A. sun- this is all wrong. The Ramones (and all of my memories) are in black and white damnit!!!
Hundreds of years ago Black Flag played were I worked, many times. Then came The Henry Rollins Band and then of course a lot of spoken word, oh so many times.
Having grown up in NYC throughout the 70’s they all resonate to me. But I think the colors particularly evoke intense memories including smells, touch and feeling in nothing else like Taxi Driver
