.@thameswater still no water since Tuesday night in se20. Your update page doesn’t mention the new big leaks that have appeared here since then (e.g. across anerley) - please can we be given more info about the overall situation, not just the one pipe? Vid of anerley last night

Fuming. We lost water last night, and no sign of it coming back anytime soon. Impacting Thousands of homes, as well as 11 care homes and 29 schools according to the BBC. @thameswater eventually set up a water station (45min bus away) but then shut it less than 2 hours later…

'Most people are pro immigration.. over recent years attitudes towards immigration has become more positive.. People see immigrants as a boom rather than as a menace to the country...'
Prof Stephen Reicher, "I would appeal to you to not call these people protestors. They're not protestors" "To call them protestors is profoundly misleading. It is to discredit a long tradition of perfectly legitimate and peaceful and important protest that has made our society

Attacks on universities, libraries & citizens advice are attacks on social mobility and the civic realm Solidarity with @TeessideUni that does so much to empower Middlesbrough & has been the victim of indiscriminate aggression today
Footage of damage caused to Teesside University in middlesbrough amid the riots taking place. Such a shame, Middlesbrough is one of the most deprived areas in England. Yet they smash up a place designed to help young people better their futures. Mindless

There are multiple paths to success as a postdoc. From my experience: 1. Seek out good mentors 2. Find collaborators you love working with 3. Create community outside of work 4. Give back; do what's meaningful 5. Network within AND beyond academia 6. Be kind—to yourself & others

grad students and postdocs planning to transition to data science/comp bio roles in industry - Python is pretty cool but please learn some boring SQL. It’s ubiquitous and necessary. Also there’s a strong possibility you won’t be using much of R.

Thankful to all the people calling this tweet out! As a current postdoc when I first saw it I felt pretty dreadful… It’s difficult to gauge current expectations / whether a career in academia is even possible in the current climate, so it’s helpful to see other perspectives

At a work away day (ugh) yesterday, I sat at a table with a group of our PhD students for one of the tasks. We were asked to talk about examples of best practice in our teaching and I think our table went in a very different direction to the others... 🧵

This is the reality of what women in public service regularly face and will remain to face in our future unless we confront abusive men who feel they have a right to intimidate women. Bless that these men think they could shout Jess down ⬇️ https://t.co/D8wVdz6uR1

“I understand that a strong woman standing up to you is met with such reticence,” replies Jess Phillips to a group of men intimidating after her win. Jess then tells of how a young woman delivering leaflets yesterday was filmed and screamed at by an older man, who then slashed
