"High quality phonics" means SYNTHETIC phonics. NOT analytic phonics NOT analogy phonics NOT onset-and-rime phonics "Balanced" Literacy simply balances the failed Whole Language method of the 80s and 90s with LOW quality phonics. That's why it's failing our children so badly.

Districts use a wind chill threshold of -20’ to -25’ (-20’ wind chill is recommended by the Onondaga County Commissioner of Health) to close school. If it was close to that I was going to close/delay but it is not. We are good to open on time today. DRESS WARM AT BUS STOPS PLEASE

Most are guilty of using a poor practice, key is to learn from it. Awesome.
"It's painful to admit this and it's painful to write. I mean, I was "Balanced Literacy's" biggest fan! I happily played "Guess the Covered Word" and similar games in my 2nd grade classroom". Yet another needless experience of reading-instruction epiphany for a teacher.
