Wir brauchen Klimaanlagen in Schulen, Kitas, Kliniken und Altenheime. #Bayern.

Great start to the day with mail from the @OIGInstitute @MinneapolisFed and its Summer 2025 Institute Update Newsletter. It includes a great summary of our paper (with @farzado and @mr_autumn) on the effect of credit supply on house prices.

One dimension we discuss is intergenerational inequality: Younger cohorts have at the same age less wealth despite having similar or higher incomes than older generations who massively benefitted from rising asset prices. @glviolante @DirkKrueger7 @PikettyWIL @gabriel_zucman 2/2.

A @voxeu summary of my paper w José-Víctor Ríos-Rull on US income and wealth inequality based on the 2022 #SCF data. We update facts for macroeconomic modelers and offer novel perspectives on income and wealth differences across US households. 1/2.

Fully agreed w @LorenzKueng: Perfect negative correlation: a lot of cheap energy from solar panels exactly when you need it for ACs. The argument of sustainability should no longer apply in a "green economy". BTW: AC in the office might also increase productivity and work input!.
Solar panels are ideal for powering air conditioning: peak sun matches peak cooling demand. But in Europe, many still avoid AC altogether in the name of “sustainability” - or turn it off as my employer does. Solar is green *and* incredibly cheap. Time to update the playbook.

Very good article in @TheEconomist that should be read by German policymakers fearing deindustrialization. The world has changed and we are no longer the manufacturing economies of the mid 20th century!.
Today’s zeal for homegrown manufacturing has many aims, including a boost to employment. But many of the good jobs created by today’s production lines are for technicians and engineers, not manual labour
