Last, a bit of life advice: if you’re giving a talk alongside @jonathankirk, make sure you go before him! Incredible storyteller, comedian, and advocate. Congrats, "Senior" Scientist! (though we are not too far apart in age, ha!)

If any of my teachers or mentors had told me, “Abby, you’re not cut out for this,” I think I would have listened. I think it’s important to remember the power of our words and reserve judgement about newcomers in science, and in higher education in general.

I got to present a bit about my research and career journey. I talked about some of my favorite things, like bacteria and ocular surface cells, but also about the mentors who showed me a path in science and encouraged me to keep going.

Can P. aeruginosa adopt an intracellular lifestyle? In #JBacteriology, researchers review studies that observe intracellular P. aeruginosa in vitro, as well as contextualize these findings with the few studies that report similar observations in vivo. https://t.co/3aicMQ0v0x

Our hope is that this will spur more investigation into this phenomenon. Intracellular P. aeruginosa has been observed in animal models and recently also lungs of cystic fibrosis patients, but it remains uncertain if it contributes to disease severity or treatment resistance.

Regretfully we couldn't cite them all, so we've put those indexed on Pubmed into this NCBI collection:

We wrote a minireview on the studies that observed intracellular Pseudomonas aeruginosa, now out in @JBacteriology ! When we set out to do this, we thought there were about 40-some papers, but we found just over 100!
Happy to share our first review out now in @JBacteriology where we discuss the 100+ studies that observed intracellular Pseudomonas aeruginosa in multiple epithelial cell types!

I'm still figuring out where my online science community is, and for the time being, will try to crosspost in a few places and see what sticks. Twitter/X: @krokenlab Blue Sky: https://t.co/rTq9w12EZY Mastodon: akroken@mstdn.science

Hello fellow scientists. We still like PHCbi -80 freezers, right? Any other brands I should give a serious look?
