I am today years old when I learned that over half of the government workforce is with DepEd. That’s more than 1 million people—900k of which are teachers. Wow. That’s a crazy statistic.
Lady I met: “Usec, sino naging backer mo diyan sa DepEd?”
Me: “wala.”
Lady I met: “huh?”
Me: “nag apply ako. Nag-submit ng documents. Na-interview. Na-hire.”
Lady I met: “oh.”
I bike commute through 5 Metro Manila cities (Parañaque, Makati, Taguig, Mandaluyong and Pasig). I will expect Amsterdam level changes for bike infrastructure after their trip.
Ang taray ko pala kanina. Pasensya na po sa mga suppliers. We’ve been burnt na kasi before. Just want to provide the best our budget can afford for our learners.

As a government worker, it’s when you finally try to use PhilHealth at the hospital that you find out it’s useless.
Tapos ipagbabawal pa ng COA ang mag HMO.
If we want party-lists to stay as representatives of the marginalized and underrepresented, then Atong Paglaum v COMELEC must be overturned. That is, nominees should come from the sectors they represent.
Dear DepEd suppliers,
Pag substandard ang mga deliveries ninyo at hindi ayon sa tech specs, di namin tatanggapin, okay? Magkaliwanagan tayo. Wag nyo na rin tangkahin maglagay, pls lang. Nakaka-insulto sa mga learners.
Hi, I’m Kris. I’m an assistant secretary at DTI. I don’t take public transport. I drive. But on some days, just to help decongest the streets and do some exercise, I bike to and from work. 🙂🚲
This is the new desk/table design for our learners. Designed for individuals to comply with social distancing; has a receptacle underneath for bags; and adjustable foot pegs for balance. Okay ba siya? Or may drawbacks. Kung meron, ano yun?
We should be solutions oriented and not punitive oriented. Instead of imposing fines on riders who seek shelter under bridges when it rains, we should provide pocket shelters for our riders to change into their rain gear.
Our 2023 budget for new classrooms is only 5.92B. It looks big, but that can only build 2,367 classrooms.
For perspective, we have a shortage of 167,000 classrooms.
Wala mangyayari sa atin if we stay in our echo chambers.
I’m here on Twitter not to preach to the choir (coz they’re not here), but to listen to and engage those who are critical of government. Peace, guys. We all love the same country. ❤️🇵🇭
Last bike commute of 2022. I biked a total of 1,717 kms this year. 122 bike rides. That’s 10 rides a month at an average of 14 kms per ride. Not bad for a usec biker. 🚲
There’s always something I learn from the regional consultations. Today I learned that a school may only have 1 admin staff, if at all. In these schools, majority of admin work are done by teachers. Either we create more admin items or we reduce admin work of teachers, or both.
I am today years old when I learned that there are now 82 provinces in the Philippines.
Maguindanao was divided into Del Norte and Del Sur in a plebiscite held last September 2022.
We will try to revive the national school building inventory (NSBI) map using ArcGIS so that we can properly monitor the construction and repair of our schools.

We have to look after our 1 million public school teachers because they are the largest single workforce who could be parents. And these parents will take care of their children. And learning starts at home.
I’m glad madaming bikers sa makati this morning to show our force.
But it’s Sunday.
There’s no office.
And maybe that plays to their point that bikers only come out on weekends.
Can we organize another CMR on a weekday?
Maligayang Pasko po sa 900,000 teachers, 100,000 non-teaching personnel at 27 million learners na nasa 47,000 schools, 225 SDOs, 17 ROs, at 1 Central Office! 🎄🏫🎁
I beat my officemate Nelson from DepEd Pasig to his place on Lawton Ave, Fort Bonifacio, by 20 minutes! Siya naka-kotse. Ako naka-bike. Bike wins! 😁❤️🚲
One of the barriers to bike commuting is the problem of transporting your office clothes.
@twowheelgear
has solved this by making the Garment Pannier. Now I can bring barongs or suits on my bike and not worry looking scruffy in meetings.

Moment na natulala ako sa DepEd briefing: There are over 40,000 public schools. Which means I’d have to visit at least 18 schools every day until June 2028 para lang ma-ocular ko silang lahat. Hanep. Saan ako kukuha ng time.
@justinmaniluh
Had a hand injury. Was rushed to an ER. Medical attention was given. Billings asked if I had an HMO. I said PhilHealth. Cashier said PhilHealth doesn’t cover that injury.
We often discuss protecting our green spaces like parks, but we shouldn’t forget about our blue spaces as well, like waterways.
This is me rowing on the Pasig river. Like greenery, it is refreshing to look at and experience. We need to protect it. Not kill it.

As an instructor at law, I did grade high these past 2 years. 🙋🏻♂️
But had to adjust kasi to the no fail policy. Had to curve kasi hindi pwede ang grade distortion.
Colleagues have asked me if I mind kung yung ka-meeting ko ay hindi usec, at lower rank pa.
I answered that I don’t mind kung sino man ka-meeting ko. Basta umusad yung project. Iwas hubris, guys, iwas hubris.
Because I’m also a biker, whenever I drive my car and I encounter a fellow biker about to cross my path, I slow down and give way because I respect his momentum.
I bike commute at least once a week since July 2021. This year I will try to bike commute at least twice a week. And next year thrice a week.
Until all my commute is by bike.

I wish people knew more about career executive service officers (or CESOs) in gov’t. We’ve earned our place in the bureaucracy. Peace, guys, have a good Friday. ✌🏼❤️🇵🇭 Kris CESO I 🙂
Sakit sa damdamin marinig ang mga poblema ng mga public schools. Tulad ng 2019 earthquake affected schools sa Matanao at Digos, Davao De Sur. Where do we get the funds to rebuild entire schools? 😢
I got to chat with DOTr Usec TJ Batan last night. Learned that TOD (transit oriented development) was transferred to his portfolio.
Reminded him not to forget cyclist-commuters and bicycles when they develop common stations of NSCR and MMSP, especially the DepEd-Senate station.
Remember: The president will appoint secretaries; Senators will review our national budget; Congressmen will decide the fate of FOI and franchises; Governors, mayors and councilors will decide how to use the increase in IRA share.
Just a snapshot of how important your vote is.
Penera v COMELEC must be overturned, or RA 8436 must be amended. If we want fund-deprived candidates like Ka-Leody to have a fighting chance, we must stop this madness of permitted premature campaigning.
I think I rowed 8 people this morning, including
@KenAbante
and
@diwatabea
. I don’t mind at all, if only to show people how beautiful our city is from the waters of Pasig River.

MAke the curriculum relevant to produce competent and job ready, active, and responsible citizens;
TAke steps to accelerate delivery of basic education facilities and services;
Meeting with Aral Pilipinas’ Abbey, Kat, Georgina, James and Prof Agar to discuss possible use of their Safe Schools Calculator—a room ventilation assessment tool, to assess our public schools.

Friends have asked what my current post is. Technically, I am still undersecretary because I hold the rank of CESO I.
But once I get deployed to an agency, I can be usec, asec, or director. I will still keep my being CESO I though.
This is the CES Mobility Principle.
Got recognized by
#DOTrPH
and
@MoveAsOnePH
for our work in providing end-of-trip facilities at DepEd CO. Accepted it on behalf of all DepEd bikers who embody the ideal of being true public sector bike commuters.
Maraming salamat, DOTr and MAO!

Any recommendations on who can fabricate a metal bike ramp? DepEd bikers have to carry their bikes over these steps to get to the bike parking.
Preferably fabricator around Pasig area. No need for philgeps as I will pay out-of-pocket.
If the SALN form stays as it is, then a good compromise is to draw a line between policy making public officers and rank & file. Anyone SG 26 and higher must have their SALNs publicly available. Anyone lower, subject to data subject consent. Game?
I don’t understand Pinoys’ lack of understanding the concept of CLAYGO. Kelangan pa bang i-Tagalog para sundan nila? Should we come up with a LMKM (Linisin Mo Kalat Mo) campaign?
In other news, DepEd will hold its first suppliers and stakeholders public forum on Tuesday October 4 at 9am. It’s gonna be streamed on our website and rebroadcasted on FB. Let us know your thoughts about what we should buy for your kids (textbooks, laptops, tables, chairs, etc.)
Hi Twitter. I’ve read your posts about my FB comment. My colleagues aren’t here because they say its toxic. But I stay because this is where the critical thinkers are & we need to listen. I acknowledge that I’ve been gender insensitive w/ the post & will be more mindful next time
Maybe it’s about time the actual end users tell us what they think of the tables, chairs, and laptops we buy for them. Thinking about organizing product testing townhalls. Wachathink?
Got to introduce innovations pa while at FOI. Pero dito sa DepEd mukhang hindi. Mapagana ko lang ng tama ang procurement, ayos na. Fair play, to spec, and on time delivery.
