I translated Inganock for @KagamiGames. This is an all-new English TL for an HD release of the game. I'm a fan of Sakurai's Steampunk games in general, but I think many people would call this one the "classic" in the series. Grateful I got the chance to work on it!

Is there anyone, and I do mean ANYONE, left in charge of Localization at Microsoft? In their latest ad, their (presumably) garbage AI translated "I just got broken up with, should I get bangs?" to "I just got broken up with, should I kill myself?" SERIOUSLY?

I have finally returned to eroge blogging with the topic you've all been waiting for: the history and legacy of a 30 year old PC-98 game called "SEX 2". I hope you enjoy this rabbit hole as much as I enjoyed reading and researching it!! https://t.co/o7Kh2UTnEB

Contractors on big projects far too often do not get what they need to do their job well in a timely way & then get blamed for delays or errors later Doesn't matter if they flag the issues immediately. They're outside the institution and therefore easy scapegoats
Marty Stratton, @idSoftware Studio Director, lied about @DOOM Eternal's OST events in a Reddit post that used disinformation to blame me entirely for its failure Later, he offered me a six-figure sum to never speak about it The truth is more important. https://t.co/zSNo2QG1mI

the thing I honestly don't get is how people balance "masking inside" against getting ugly sick for like a week and decide the mask is more annoying

The pleasure of finding a perfect phrase fades under these conditions. A tricky line isn't an interesting puzzle, it's a nuisance to push past. The checks are the only reward, and they aren't proportional to the effort I put in.

Now I feel more like a human Translation Widget. Input Japanese, output English. Pass to overworked editor I rarely speak to. No feedback. More Japanese. 10 months later maybe a reader comments on a book I barely remember working on.

I used to really enjoy translating. I collaborated with others on projects I cared about & discussed thorny choices. I set my own schedules. When I finished something, I felt pride and loved seeing people react to my work.
