This is the statement on exclusion I read at my panel this morning at #ASA2024. My fellow panelists also endorsed it, and it ended up being even more relevant because one of the presenters had to zoom in due to visa troubles 😔

This is a small act, but I think everyone should have to confront this fact, so I'm planning to write a statement to read before my ASA talk. If anyone wants to brainstorm and/or write their own, I would love to collaborate, especially if you are personally impacted by this.
ASA in Canada next year and having the theme emphasize “liberatory praxis” is so ironic given how no undocumented student researchers will be able to participate in-person.

Biden’s executive action will shield approximately 500,000 undocumented spouses of US citizens, as well as 50,000 children, from deportation and give them the legal right to stay in the US.

Farmworkers are on the frontlines of the bird flu outbreak. Protecting them isn’t just the right thing to do; it’s a smart strategy to prevent another pandemic.

This thread by @janelillylopez is as important as the article 🧵.
I know so many families are relieved at this long-awaited relief. Their lives will be drastically changed with the right to live and work in the US. I am so happy that they will experience this much-needed relief from punitive immigration laws.
