My top three accomplishments this past year:
1.I survived.
2.I continued seeing my therapist.
3.I didn’t drop out of graduate school.
Not all accomplishments look alike or have to be academic.

Now that it's official, I can announce it. I'm excited to say that I recently accepted a position with the County in their Office of Court Management as a Research Analyst. 😊🎉

We always do experiences - last year we got him and his wife symphony tickets and a Giftcard to a very nice restaurant near by.
This year we are doing a cooking class and some thing else that is undecided!! 🙈
10/30 students wear masks consistently. I told them I was disabled in hopes they’d be more willing to wear masks b/c we are not allowed to require them. Nope.
Instead, I‘ve been getting sick before class, & then crying in my car omw home. I’m exhausted & it’s only week 2.
I've been standing in front of students and trying not to cry, because I have to beg them to wear masks, and explain and justify my request by continually explaining my vulnerability as a disabled faculty member.
I'm feeling so raw at the end of this week, I dont have the words.

I loved the first week of my new position! Adjusting to the 8-5 life was a little hard, but I figured out a schedule that works for me. I also met some of the judges, and got my first assignment to work on. I’m very happy.

Just had a wonderful conversation with my very conservative father about me being non-binary, what my pronouns are, and what that means. He asked me questions and was pretty understanding. I’d call that a win. I’m so proud. 🥹🎉
I’ve been on the

market for ≈ 3 months. I’ve applied to 15 positions. I’ve received rejection notices from 3, been invited to interview or complete a written test by 2, and am still waiting on the others. Today, I got invited to my 3rd interview (applied back in Jan.) 🎉
I love my dissertation topic. It’s so important to me. I can’t wait to start writing.
** I will update how I feel about it in a few months 😂

Y’all, shout out to

. She’s one of the most supportive & kind mentors I could have asked for. I’m so grateful she has taken me under her wing!
If your mentor doesn’t tell you they are proud of you for even the smallest accomplishments, you deserve one that does!
What dissertation grants are out there to apply for? I’ve got the typical ones like NSF, BJS, etc., but what about the less obvious/well known ones?

My friend Marilyn was recently diagnosed w/stage 4 cancer & is undergoing treatment. Her family set up a go fund me to help cover the costs.

Congratulations to those getting offers to PhD/MA programs!
If you get disappointing news, just know it's not personal. You’re still a wonderful person & this doesn’t change that.
I was rejected from my 1st choice school for my PhD. It hurt, but it ended up being a good thing!
Y’all I’m feeling very defeated. I’m on month 4 of being unemployed. I’ve depleted my savings searching for a new role. I’ve applied to well over 100 jobs and nothing so far. 😔

I want to organize a graduate student mental health and wellness roundtable for ASC.
If anyone’s interested in participating, please DM me and let me know!
Something that’s been on mind lately is the lack of accommodations avail. thru disability student services for grad. students. Generally, they are geared towards undergrads (e.g., extra testing time, note taking). Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed this?

Mother’s Day is weird day for me. I lost my mom when I was 8 to cancer. But I also have a great step-mom who I want to celebrate. I’m giving myself permission to grieve and celebrate simultaneously today. Sending love to all those in a similar position today. 💜
#MothersDay
So far today I have written about 250 words on one of my portfolio papers, resubmitted an IRB app & it was approved, and then scheduled a meeting to brainstorm for one of the ASC roundtables I'm organizing. 1/2
I went to the pet store this morning wearing my

Y’all... I AM FULLY VACCINATED. Words don’t express the relief I feel.
If we want to stop the spread of
#COVID19
we need to trust the science, and get vaccinated.
Also, did you know that if you volunteer at vaccine hubs that you can get vaccinated (in most places)? (1/2)
This morning I got vaccinated with my first dose of Moderna. I can’t even put into words what this means for me. As someone who is very high risk for complications from COVID-19, I am so grateful to have this vaccine.
So far today, I’ve had a family member tell me I’m fake and disingenuous. Then they proceeded told me they were disappointed in me and that I was delusional. How’s your weekend going?
Today was my last shift at the vaccine hub (it’s closing). I helped screen ≈600 ppl getting their 2nd doses.
I felt a strong urge to con’t serving my community & others, so I decided to submit my app & background check w/the American Red Cross. I’m grateful & excited. 😁
This month is also
#BreastCancerAwarenessMonth
which is VERY important to me. My mom passed away from breast cancer in 2003 & my grandma had a double mastectomy. Every year I get a mammogram. I am always the youngest person there. I’ve even been held up so they could check (1/)
Having supportive mentors who care about me and my well-being has increased my productivity exponentially, & I do not feel overwhelmed. Who’d have thought having people in your corner cheering you on would be helpful. 🙃🤯
